What is the Meaning of Faith Never Taught?

Please note prior to reading that all the categories, and all the tags I use are well covered for any willing to read this writing, and also investigate my links for more information on everything spoken. So please share.

As different individuals worldwide being a part of our 7.4 billion plus earthly inhabitants, who are you and what is your purpose in this life? Does it come from your own thoughts with direction, or a spiritual direction unknown to all humanity other than yourself through spiritual knowledge and understanding of our creator accompanied with His will for your direction in this life?

If you are deeply in any way associated with ways of our human race being anything and everything worldly, you are nothing but a population number within the human system of life being separated from YHVH through your iniquities. Isaiah 59

If you are a religious believer as billions through being Catholic, Christian, Islam, or any religious title having different Gods, spirits, doctrines, traditions; and the way you walk in this life being psychologically self-directed rather than instructed in the Bible — the god of this world being the father of lies all believe is your god.

Whereas those few called have no other life beyond seeking truth directly from YHVH through becoming totally disassociated with all religions and worldly ways – thus are no longer of this world [John 15:19 Colossians 3] through seeing end time prophecy all through the entire Bible, and warning others through scripture they just won’t believe – until their calamity comes upon them having no reverse.

008

When a true Christian believer lives their life lacking in all categories, yet retain their strong faith regardless, they have learned to live on that faith because there has never been any other way through their past 10 years of life’s day to day living.

Welcome to my world as a spiritual inmate with so many restrictions, that the only existence my wife and I have is spiritual hope through our faith and prayers while living in mental, spiritual, and physical stress — mainly, at the time of this writing — just for the needs of my wife that Yehovah God refuses to heal. Nevertheless, we have both accepted our many hardships for years and years of not even having basic needs like a stove, vacuum, good pots and pans, regular meals, or even a simple basic home since 2012 from hollow block and bamboo with a nipa/leaf roof — http://timeoftrouble.webs.com/ourhome.htm  — yet we just continue on in our life because we know that without our Father we are as nothing; and we also know that Yehovah has a purpose for our life through years of His shaping and molding to prepare us for the worst timesoftrouble coming upon all humanity, while also knowing that my wife Mylene will be healed – in His time according to His will.

I will not get into any depth on my 51 years in America being a life of mostly problems with wrong turns, mistakes, and regrets just as millions of others never having any real happiness. . . and then topped off with a head injury decades ago leaving me disabled with zero income; and that was my beginning of being spiritually drawn in 1989 — and finally after 17 years of private study on and off, one strong spiritual urge in 2006 to just leave my five decades of life behind as dust in the wind to become spiritually educated on the other side of the globe in the Philippines while learning to live on faith.

Please allow me to explain our situation in life.

A year and a half ago in June of 2015, my greatest and most important issue at that time was the great suffering with much pain my loving wife has been going through on and off since 2009 – and the extremity of the matter is what began as double pneumonia along with her congenital heart disease had worsened into very painful Myoma that has been greatly effecting her for years while only getting worse and worse to the point that she could no longer even teach 4th grade.

http://timeoftroubles.webs.com/philippinelifestyle.htm

In 2012, because of the 4 months good employment I had as a mechanical supervisor for a drilling company, we were able to buy a lot with nothing but a 20’x 13′ storage building on dirt. So a little at a time, I first added a separate rest room. Then a small kitchen, then a dirty kitchen for fire to cook. So for the next 3 1/2 years we both just fought our daily fights with what life had to offer, being absolutely nothing – and even though we felt blessed to have much more than billions of others in our world filled with great sadness — when the good of mankind and Christianity becomes the issue — we still had hunger — we had nowhere to go — nothing to do — and each month was mine alone having to deal with the great suffering Mylene had been going through for years – so I would just do whatever possible to help her in any way.

100_2491

How can you take care of the one you love when prayer is the only weapon you have that seems to go unanswered? So what did I do? We both stayed in prayer. I would make her hot water bottles and other times crushed ice for her to place where it seemed to help the pain. Then there was rubbing her legs, feet, sometimes her back, and other times complete body messages to ease her pain. I also became pretty good at reflex — or a rounded small pencil size poker at work on the bottom of her feet to hit the right nerve that would cause her a great pain — but a good pain because it would tend to remove her agony.

There were many other times on and off, that I would cry to Yehovah God so heavily in prayer while telling Him His own words in the Bible — and what he allows is just in no way fair, right, loving or true to His words for those disassociated with worldly ways, pagan holidays, and the uncountable Christian and other religious organizations only hearing while having dead faith! James 1:22-25, 2:14-26, Matthew 25:31-46, 22:36-40, etc.

what-has-never-been-taught-in-religion-or-education-worldwide-86

So because we had reached our wits end, had no family, had no genuine friends according to biblical instruction, no help, and no concern from Christianity  — we sold our home making our transfer possible to be where her mom and dad living in poverty could help me to help her through prayers and love easing all the stress I had through being totally alone in a very cold hearted world lacking genuine Christian love beyond uncountable meaningless empty words — just as the Bible reveals in much scripture never taught by shepherds worldwide.

Therefore our home in these photos reveal what our new life became through living with her mom and dad in their 80’s, and their little income being $30 each every three months.

So what was our circumstance? What exactly was our only action without choice?

We used almost all we had to make it livable . . . and to have a small typical store just as thousands of others here in the Philippines and Asia — because any income, no matter how small, is better than none.

100_1563

On this bed were we slept, there was many a day when Mylene would become with such great pain, that her parents and others would pray for her – but never a penny from our world filled with loving Christians just for vitamins, heart friendly Ensure, fruits, or anything else to slightly ease our many life’s difficulties; and that is commanded love from the so-called church body of Christ calling themselves Christians???

As I read these words and update a year and a half later, 12/23/2016, her pain for the most part our Father has taken from her, and just for that, we give thanks always – but we still have very little to eat, no transportation, no happy life, and almost no customers because we have near nothing to sell being only basic needs.

1 Corinthians 12:26 along with much scripture on love for others is the most ignored instruction in the Bible, and that explains why this world of Christians know not the Yehovah God they worship. Read all 1 John, and then look into the mirror while asking yourself what you have ever really done for anyone other than your own self while hiding behind religious speech YHVH sees right through – thus knows all true colors that can never hide behind all the words Christians speak and sing so well with multitudes waving their arms towards heaven.

I built all shelves and this rice display; and it was good just for something to do. And being rice is the main Philippine staple food, it’s good to sell. Our new business was acceptable when we still had funds to spend weekly for inventory – being 5000 peso or $100. But since our money ran dry one year ago, our life has been a steady down hill slide.

But when difficulties stay, the time arrived over 6 months ago what we no longer could afford the 2000 peso or $40 per 50 kg sack of rice to sell.

Back 8 months ago, we at least had some stock to sell for a very small profit only to feed her parents, buy some for ourselves, pay the water, electric, and cable with nothing left over, and our cable was disconnected 4 months ago being 4 months past due, or a total of 350 peso per month x 4 = $28

Thus through the same circumstance, all our stock to sell has greatly dwindled. Fact is, when our monthly power bill comes, and less because we unplug both refrigerators every night, the only help we get to pay 1700 peso or $34 dollars comes from her sister Unice Sunio in another part of the Philippines near Manila; and we are very thankful for her genuine kindness.

But as time passed by, problems only seem to increase, and that was, for one reason being a couple we helped through selling http://timeoftrouble.webs.com/ourhome.htm our 1st home which was built in 2010-2011, just stopped paying us one year ago; and the 3000 peso or $60 a month we really needed to just survive – and here in the Philippines, unless YHVH makes something happen – you become financially screwed out of the 83000 peso owed being $1660.00. To many that may seem like a small amount, but for us, if it was paid, our life would greatly change just from being able to restock, buy food to eat, and fix my Jeep that rolled back in April.

https://ttimesoftrouble.wordpress.com/2016/09/22/is-your-life-a-blessing-or-a-curse/

At this point in life, we just keep our faith, watch signs of the times, pray always, and wait for our Fathers will to be done in our life.

WHAT IS REALLY HAVING FAITH?

WHAT IS REALLY HAVING FAITH?

Please, please, please share this writing because we all on this earth need help in different ways.

Faith is preparing for life’s coming storms upon all humanity as written; therefore learning to live on faith through putting trust in only our creator when there is no other way for survival.

When two people are drawn together from different parts of the world while being have-nots with absolutely nothing material in their life, yet stay together regardless of their many hardships to be married and become as one. . .

Our wedding in 2009

There is a purpose for all things through those chosen and called out of this world that all natural worldly minds cannot spiritually grasp. John 15:19  1 Corinthians 2:14

It’s because through faith, there is a purpose for all things.

“We are assured and know that [YHVH being a partner in their labor] all things work together and are [fitting into a plan] for good to and for those who love YHVH and are called according to [His] design and purpose. Romans 8:28 (AMPC) with God’s name restored.

Through faith, those called and chosen know that they cannot direct their own steps.

“O Lord [pleads Jeremiah in the name of the people], I know that [the determination of] the way of a man is not in himself; it is not in man [even in a strong man or in a man at his best] to direct his [own] steps. Jeremiah 10:23

Through faith, those chosen continually look to the Father for making their path in this life straight according to His will, and never their own.

“In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths. Proverbs 3:6

Through faith, we know to put no trust in humankind because Satan and his ministers scattered worldwide mislead while selling lies for tithes being un biblical.

“So that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men (human philosophy), but in the power of YHVH. It is better to depend on Yehovah than to trust mortals. 1 Corinthians 2:5, Psalms 118:8

Through faith is knowing this entire world has been misled, deceived, snared, tricked, and beguiled leaving none, no, not one pleasing in the sight of YHVH.

“And the huge dragon was cast down and out—that age-old serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, he who is the seducer (deceiver) of all humanity the world over; he was forced out and down to the earth, and his angels were flung out along with him.

“The Lord looked down from heaven upon the children of men to see if there were any who understood, dealt wisely, and sought after God, inquiring for and of Him and requiring Him [of vital necessity]. They are all gone aside, they have all together become filthy; there is none that does good or right, no, not one. Revelation 12:9, Psalms 14:2-3

Is not scripture true when spiritually sought? Is not the near 7.5 billion living and thinking in worldly ways the children of men? Has not Satan deceived this entire world?

Therefore, through faith, these words of scripture become clearly understood, and taken very personally. . .

“If you belonged to the world, the world would treat you with affection and would love you as its own. But because you are not of the world [no longer one with it], but I have chosen (selected) you out of the world, the world hates (detests) you. John 15:19

Through faith is seen this entire human race in a division led by their own way which seems right and can be told nothing different from whatever their own human spirit leads; thus keeping them of this world, and despising any not like them while lacking the fruits of loving others as they love themselves.

“There is a way which seems right to a man and appears straight before him, but at the end of it is the way of death. Proverbs 14:12 and 16:25

Through faith, we know that the church, being a building has absolutely nothing to do with the Greek word ekklesia which means a calling out, therefore it was wrongly translated leaving all church buildings worldwide as an illusion filled with mislead, and where Satan dwells.

Through faith, we know that the name of God and Jesus Christ are more manmade titles having nothing to do with whom they really are being Yehovah Elohim and Yeshua HaMashiach.

Through faith, we also know that through world division, pride, and all the ways which seem right to humans — very, very, few will agree with anything written or spoken differently from their own thoughts; and reason is because any not chosen and called out of this world through disassociation, know only their self.

100_31751 Samuel 2:8

Think of what I share like this; what if your life for a decade never brought you any happiness even though you believed, prayed, endured, and waited for anything better than the life you had?

How would you feel through years and years experiencing this world of Christianity showing zero love with compassion for others in need when it a commandment?

What could possibly be any more clear than these following words of scripture Christians totally ignore?

“I give you a new commandment: that you should love one another. Just as I have loved you, so you too should love one another. John 13:34 (AMPC)

“The person who has My commands and keeps them is the one who [really] loves Me; and whoever [really] loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I [too] will love him and will show (reveal, manifest) Myself to him. [I will let Myself be clearly seen by him and make Myself real to him.]  John 14:21 (AMPC)

“Anyone who hates (abominates, detests) his brother [in Christ] is [at heart] a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding ([a]persevering) within him. By this we come to know (progressively to recognize, to perceive, to understand) the [essential] love: that He laid down His [own] life for us; and we ought to lay [our] lives down for [those who are our] brothers [[b]in Him]. But if anyone has this world’s goods (resources for sustaining life) and sees his brother and fellow believer in need, yet closes his heart of compassion against him, how can the love of God live and remain in him? Little children, let us not love [merely] in theory or in speech but in deed and in truth (in practice and in sincerity). 1 John 3:15-18

“Teacher, which [a]kind of commandment is great and important (the principal kind) in the Law? [Some commandments are light—which are heavy?] And He replied to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind (intellect). This is the great (most important, principal) and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as [you do] yourself. These two commandments [b]sum up and upon them depend all the Law and the Prophets. Matthew 22:36-40

“But be doers of the Word [obey the message], and not merely listeners to it, betraying yourselves [into deception by reasoning contrary to the Truth]. For if anyone only listens to the Word without obeying it and being a doer of it, he is like a man who looks carefully at his [own] natural face in a mirror; For he thoughtfully observes himself, and then goes off and promptly forgets what he was like. But he who looks carefully into the faultless law, the [law] of liberty, and is faithful to it and perseveres in looking into it, being not a heedless listener who forgets but an active doer [who obeys], he shall be blessed in his doing (his life of obedience). James 1:22-25

Listen, my beloved brethren: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and in their position as believers and to inherit the kingdom which He has promised to those who love Him? If indeed you [really] fulfill the royal Law in accordance with the Scripture, You shall love your neighbor as [you love] yourself, you do well. So speak and so act as [people should] who are to be judged under the law of liberty [the moral instruction given by Christ, especially about love]. For to him who has shown no mercy the judgment [will be] merciless, but mercy [full of glad confidence] exults victoriously over judgment. What is the use (profit), my brethren, for anyone to profess to have faith if he has no [good] works [to show for it]? Can [such] faith save [his soul]? If a brother or sister is poorly clad and lacks food for each day, And one of you says to him, Good-bye! Keep [yourself] warm and well fed, without giving him the necessities for the body, what good does that do? So also faith, if it does not have works (deeds and actions of obedience to back it up), by itself is destitute of power (inoperative, dead). James 2:5, 8, 12-17

100_3175

1 Samuel 2:8

The meaning of the verse just read has absolutely nothing to do with today’s worldly riches, but rather speaks of an earned position within His eternal government. Isaiah 9:6-7, Revelation 5:10, ect.

My wife and I have been without funds and have no food, so we pray as always and also ask Yehovah how much longer until we find just one genuine believer being as a doer of what you command rather than a hearer only, and continue our wait for our most simple needs.

The site below through compassionate crowdfunding at the time if this update [4/8/2017] gained 130 shares, yet no help that we really need. Why is that?

https://www.youcaring.com/jeffandmylenecallarman-789450

Because the god of this world only hates love, kindness, truth, compassion, empathy, and everything to do with righteousness; therefore being the misleading spirit of evil as the prince and power of the air, he injects selfishness and mislead into all minds which nullifies this world of Christianity from even knowing the creator they worship in words without deed, because Father Elohim [God] is love. Read again 1 John 3:17-18 while knowing there are many verses that accompany being a commandment. For any wanting deep spiritual truth, this read below offers much.

https://ttimesoftrouble.wordpress.com/2017/03/10/the-kingdom-of-satan-is-earth/

So our faith has become a decade of patience through knowing YHVH has been shaping and molding us for use in these end times according to His will; therefore through faith, no matter what life’s circumstance comes upon us — without choice we just accept our life as it is, and that is because those with faith through endurance and self-sacrifice of life’s basic needs, are those who which pleases our Father — therefore know their destiny.

Do you love our creator? How much? Enough to do be as sheep rather than the goats in Matthew 25:31-46? Ever wonder where and how the judgment will come upon all the goats worldwide?

Is Your Life a Blessing or a Curse?

For many, what they think is blessing hides their hidden curse being judgement with punishment en route; and for many with faith, their seemingly curse in life will become a blessing. Psalms 33:17-22

When we have been placed within our spiritual prison for life, all that we can do is seek our daily path through instruction nobody of this world follows — because it’s not of this world. Proverbs 1, 2, 3, John 15, and Colossians 3 tell it like it is.

008

With all the hard times in life billions worldwide have to deal with in their own way — whether it be hunger, homeless, surrounded with massive rebel violence, death, chemical genocide, diseases, torture, wrongly in prison, a victim of human trafficking, or brutal rapes with children included – which is in truth just a part of the uncountable atrocities upon innocent human beings everywhere on this planet earth, thus my wife and I have well learned to just accepted our own difficulties for many years while seeing the little we have as more of a blessing when compared to what multitudes scattered worldwide must face each day for years and years upon more years being their entire life of nothing but hardship and survival; therefore we just deal with our own way of existence through faith and prayer going far beyond just words, and beyond our world of false Christianity having words only with nothing more.

https://ttimesoftrouble.wordpress.com/2016/07/10/539/  Efforts Towards Spiritual Knowledge

http://timesofroubles.webs.com/mywritingsforgod.htm Ditto

Below is a brief description of what happened to us back in April 2016, and to this day nothing has changed because zero help has ever come our way through loving and righteous Christianity – and sadly the same holds true for those always being tortured in North Korea, and places all over this globe; and it’s all because of the incapable human rule which has always been based on power, greed, and control over our entire civilization being as nothing above worthless human trash which can easily be seen by those few on this earth seeking truth on the way things truly are. So what do politicians do? Ask Killery or even Trump why this world is nothing but lies? Ask them why billions were dumped into their smorgasbord of lies as presidential candidates  rather than the power and control they have in turning billions and trillions towards helping our brutalized soon to fall United States? They won’t answer because it’s the plan of the New World Order to kill and destroy for reducing our world population through the extermination of billions.

https://dochub.com/timesoftrouble/ylRD1O/30_population_control_quotes

Because of our living situation, we went looking for a place to rent even though we had no funds because; 1) my disability from old head injury long ago, 2) having no pension, social security, employment or income for these past 10 years in a 3rd world country, less 4 months work in 2012 — and 3) has been my wife’s health problems that became so extreme, she had to stop teaching 4th grade so we could move for gaining help to care for her during hard times filled with much pain. And the reason for no money was we put everything we had from the sale of our lot and home into the near unlivable shack where she had been raised, and still the home of her parents in their 80’s with no income – thus not even our own making our life as a prison needing escape with only faith being our hope.

100_2600100_2601100_2286100_2381

Even after my own paint job and many repairs through months as little funds allowed, our day did not end well.

100_2624

Since meeting in 2007, we have always had very little in this life; therefore having even less just comes as nothing new. By rights, Mylene and I could have easily died because when we went off the road, down into shallow embankment and flipped doing about 40 mph, and because of no seat belts we were as marbles being shaken in a can – yet neither of us was badly hurt because our guardian angel was with us; and given the way our situation in life has been for almost a decade – only those few with spiritual understanding can relate – thus what happened had purpose through more shaping and molding that Yehovah has been doing for years to prepare our faith for the hardest times within the greatest world chaos that has ever been; therefore now it’s our greatest prayer for some help that we have needed for almost a decade comes our way because we really have down to absolutely nothing for so many years with strong and valid reasons why; yet even with all my efforts towards spiritual education, what is coming upon America and this world according to the signs of the times – no help has come since this happened in April 2016.

100_2845

Even though all we own is this 1997 Nissan Jeep that I had redone all the brakes, wheel cylinders, pinion seal, lights, still needs a decent radiator, fuel line, recovered the two seats, metal repair in floors, painted and more, but had no funds to rebuild the front end, replace idler arm, shocks or rear tires; thus driving that day – when the lower right control arm came loose, the front left wheel went left by itself taking us quickly off the road with no warning.

Far as our living conditions we accept. . .100_3524 Her parent’s private restroom and shower they prefer, and mine below they chose not to use because it is different even though there is no flush.

100_3538100_3428

Mylene’s mom and dad behind the empty shack next to us because we have no back yard beyond the outhouse.

100_3528

Our only transportation has been like this since April 2016, and being I was a mechanic, welder, body man, and painter with many other hands on trades – I could have easily repaired everything for a thousand dollars, buy some food to eat, and even had a needed good needed nights sleep.

Ever heard of a living Sacrifice? Well, leaving my entire prior life in 2006 was exactly that:

my-tools-and-cars-008my-tools-and-cars-004my-tools-and-cars-007my-tools-and-cars-005my-tools-and-cars-010my-tools-and-cars-003my-tools-and-cars-020

I am 61 and would love a game of Chess, a drink, good music, and some normal conversations on the way things worldwide truly are. But sadly, I want far too much than this world is willing to supply.

One Big Question: Who are you in The Eyes of our Creator that knows all things with absolutely nothing ever hid?

One of self? Hate? Greed? Self-Righteous? All Knowing? Religious Hypocrite? Or like most all believers living through their words only while having Zero Action For Others In Need?

So what are Christians suppose to do?

https://dochub.com/timesoftrouble/w28QO5/love_god_seeks_in_believers_but_cannot_find_as_commanded

As for my loving wife and I,

this past decade has been nothing beyond a hard, hungry, hurting, and needful life in many ways with Christians showing absolutely zero care or concern — even though the words in the Holy Bible tell exactly their coming destiny through dead faith revealed in Matthew 25:31-46 and James 2:14-17, 1 John 3:17-18 — But do they believe who they claim to love, honor, and worship?

We would be more than thankful for any help no matter how small, because just a little is far better than nothing.

A Well-Worn Bible Reveals What Dust Collectors Hide

destruction

Nothing on this earth through human beings is by accident; thus all known, planned, and predestined for specific individuals having a purpose – or do you think as all worldly existing in their unknown ways of darkness lacking True Light?

The first section of all you shall read are words by writer Casandra as a loving sister in Christ – along with my comments in bold.

It has been said that a bible falling apart usually belongs to someone who isn’t. I like that. The well-worn pages of a bible tell a beautiful story. Every wrinkle marks a spot where someone came to meet God. The notes written in the margin are reminders of lessons learned, questions asked, and surrender given. In a few places, you might find smeared ink where tear drops have fallen, battles have been fought, and sins have been forgiven. The cracked, worn binding of a Bible reveals strength that has been unleashed in prayer as the words of God have breathed life into a soul.

The Bible is more than a book. God breathed and His heart took shape in the form of words on paper. His Word is a window into who He is, how He loves us, and what He is doing in us. It is a mirror by which we can see our own hearts. It shows us the truth about who we are, why we need Him, and who we can be in Him. It is a light that shows us where to go, who to trust, and how to be filled with joy.

Many believers can write beautiful words through their own spirit as uplifting, positive, hope filled, and very pleasing to read, even though YHVHs spirit is completely absent because of their many unknown iniquities which have separated them from YHVH, and that is because there has always been many Gods just as Satan being the God of this misled world all unknowingly believe and follow through uncountable different ways; after all, is not he the father of lies?

In opening our Bibles, we receive an amazing gift. Each word echoes with the voice of God. Every book points to Jesus. Every verse reveals His plan, His purposes, and His passion for you. Every time you open your Bible you meet God. You come into His presence and have the chance for a fresh start, new beginning, radical transformation, or quiet grace.

If every time a Christian opened their Bible, or dust collector, what gift, what echo, or what voice could they possibly receive or hear through being separated? How many Christians obey loving others as they love themselves? How many accept self sacrifice to help another in need? How many prove all things through spiritual research? How many do things commanded rather than what their own mind leads? Through these past nine years, even with hundreds of thousands of views through my now 15 free websites, I have yet to find just one true Christian brother, sister, shepherd, or anyone for some help on a regular basis, and just a little help like an old box of misc unused whatever, or some original Kraft dinners that to me would be as a good meal and blessing; yet our world of Christians all claiming love, saved, born again, forgiven, or whatever are actually living in very dead faith because of their own zeroed actions. Mathews 4:4, James 2:14-17, Hebrews 11:6

God gives us a stunning promise about what will happen when we allow Him to unleash the power of His Word in our lives. “As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” – Isaiah 55:10-11

Do you want to flourish? Do you want to be fruitful? Fill yourself with the words of God. His Word will not return to Him without fulfilling His deepest desire in you. Opening His Word makes it possible for Him to achieve His purpose in your life. His purpose is transformation. He wants to fill you with Jesus.

Opening His word ten thousand times, or every day for a hundred years will accomplish absolutely zilch when the instruction within is not followed; therefore whatever read or spoken through any directed by their own spirit such as all the greatest loved TV preachers and EVANGELISTS WORLDWIDE HAVING MANY MILLIONS OF FOLLOWERS — actually becomes as worthless dust in the wind.

My Jesus Resolution today is to open my Bible and meet God in its pages. Today I am not going to read just to check it off my list or quiet the guilt-o-meter. I am going to still my spirit and listen for the voice of God. I am going to let my heart beat in anticipation of being with the One who loves me beyond measure. I am going to let the richness of His Word feed my deepest hunger. I am going to let the living waters of His presence fill the deep crevices of my soul. And if my Bible looks well-loved, it will just be a reflection of a heart that has taken a journey of joy.

What saddens me greatly is just how few even have a guilt-o-meter, and if any do, their relief is only words with nothing more to quiet it – while still totally ignoring their dust book of instruction revealing them as the goats in Matthew 25:31-46, rather than sheep hearing their Lord Yeshua.

Because I do have well over two decades seeking, my Bible is well-worn through over 25 years of use – while never being a church member or associated since 1995.

The words read by Casandra at the start of this writing, being an author, speaker, and lover of God and Christ are very uplifting, moving, heartfelt, and joyful because all she writes seems as straight-up pure promise requiring zero efforts, sacrifice, or obedience, while bringing great delight; and truth is, that is what all Christianity really want to hear from other believers, priests, pastors, ministers, bishops, laymen, and prophets being filled with love towards YHVH almighty and our Lord Yeshua in the same way — but sadly, only through words with nothing added, as I have witnessed and experienced since the end of 2006; therefore any words spoken or written being the opposite of what all worldly Christian speakers lead their followers to believe – which is completely lacking and misleading regarding their hopes, dreams, and desire of being close to Yehovah and Yeshua – are shunned, ignored, not liked, not listened to, and not believed while hating or despising whomever delivers them – even though scripture being 31,102 verses, depending on which Bible version is a message, instruction, and warning directly to Israel being Christianity scattered worldwide according to the Bible through scripture few really understand; and that is because of what has been written below in Revelation 12:9 that none believe.

Where is all the joy she and this world of Christian believers speak about? Now for me and my wife, tears have been plenty, and the battles between flesh and spirit are nonstop; however . . .

Bottom of Form

Has this world of Christianity been told to come out of all the church buildings of man where Satan dwells? Do Christians even know that all the rough, unsmooth, non uplifting and negative scripture is speaking to them as if being a mirror to the words?

Have believers been made aware that salvation for all mankind, which Yeshua accomplished through being crucified, only becomes eternal through being obedient as stated in Hebrews chapter 5:8-9? And that obedience will come when this world is being judged.

Few and the Many

In Isaiah 26:9 is what lies ahead for all on this earth, and verse 20 speaks of the few with verse 21 being the many of this world. Read the 16 verses in Psalms 91 which discuses the two kinds of people.

Most importantly is how our entire race has been deceived, totally misled, conned, beguiled, lied to, tricked, and even paying unbiblical tithes along with many additional offerings which rarely go where people have been told, but rather line many crooked pockets just as world governments, charities, and Good Will as Wal-Mart selling massive amounts of product obtained for free, and that’s good will, rather than helping those in need? — and all spoken my brothers and sisters includes the over two billion Christians everywhere on this earth – or is Revelation 12:9 only a godly lies not including Christians?

If and when pulpits talk about world deception, wolves in sheep’s clothing, etc, — they really have no idea whatsoever that they are talking about themselves, because if they did – their error would be revealed to the congregation they teach, repentance would follow, and proper lead through much self sacrifice through becoming doers of the word would occur, rather than hearers only deceiving themselves. James 1:22-25

When is the last time any religious title of all Christian denominations very sternly told their believers these following words from Isaiah 54:7-8 and 59:2?

Hebrews Isaiah 006100_0975

So what exactly is iniquity, and why should Christians be concerned?

In Psalm 32:5, the psalmist says, “I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.” In this one verse, “sin,” “iniquity,” and “transgression” are all mentioned. Basically, the three words communicate the same idea: evil and lawlessness, as defined by God (see 1 John 3:4). However, upon closer examination, each word also carries a slightly different meaning.

The word sin and its cognates are used 786 times in the New International Version of the Bible. Sin means “to miss the mark.” It can refer to doing something against God or against a person (Exodus 10:16), doing the opposite of what is right (Galatians 5:17), doing something that will have negative results (Proverbs 24:33–34), and failing to do something you know is right (James 4:17). In the Old Testament, God even instituted sacrifices for unintentional sins (Numbers 15:27). Sin is the general term for anything that “falls short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).

Sin leads to a downward progression that, without the restoring power of the Holy Spirit, we all tend toward. The sin nature is present in every human being born since the Fall of Adam (Genesis 3:6–7; Romans 5:12). If left unchecked, continual sin leads to a “reprobate mind,” spoken of in Romans 1:24. Our sin nature causes us to gravitate naturally toward selfishness, envy, and pride, even when we are trying to do good. The apostle Paul alluded to his propensity to sin when he wrote, “For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.” (Romans 7:18).

The sin nature leads to trespassing. A trespasser is someone who crosses a line or climbs a fence that he should not cross or climb. A trespass may be intentional or unintentional. Trespass can also mean “to fall away after being close beside.” Peter trespassed when he denied Yeshua (Luke 22:34, 56–62). We all “cross the line” in thought, word, or attitude many times a day and should be quick to forgive others who do the same (Matthew 6:15).

Transgression refers to presumptuous sin. It means “to choose to intentionally disobey; willful trespassing.” Samson intentionally broke his Nazirite vow by touching a dead lion (Numbers 6:1–5; Judges 14:8–9) and allowing his hair to be cut (Judges 16:17); in doing so he was committing a transgression. David was referring to this kind of sin when he wrote, “Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered” (Psalm 32:1). When we knowingly run a stop sign, tell a lie, or blatantly disregard an authority through disobeying Yehovah instruction, we are transgressing.

In the Old Testament of the 11 words translated “iniquity,” by far the most common and important is `awon (about 215 times). Etymologically, it is customary to explain it as meaning literally “crookedness,” “perverseness,” i.e. evil regarded as that which is not straight or upright, moral distortion (from `iwwah, “to bend,” “make crooked,” “pervert”). Driver, however (following Lagarde), maintains that two roots, distinct in Arabic, have been confused in Hebrew, one equals “to bend,” “pervert” (as above), and the other equals “to err,” “go astray”; that `awon is derived from the latter, and consequently expresses the idea of error, deviation from the right path, rather than that of perversion (Driver, Notes on Sam, 135 note) Whichever etymology is adopted, in actual usage it has three meanings which almost imperceptibly pass into each other:

(1) iniquity,

(2) guilt of iniquity,

(3) punishment of iniquity.

For any true and genuine believer, the only way for our path in this life must come from our creator – so when we only look to YHVH just as our Head Yeshua, His truth is set before us, IF, we seek his truth through our dedication of study; and to actually study and show ourselves approved takes so much time that worldly ways simply become as obsolete or done away with because our mind has become set on things above as written in Colossians 3:1-4 – Because only then shall all of these verses below become as greatly needed and required spiritual education when read.

Primarily, it denotes “not an action, but the character of an action” (Oehler), and is so distinguished from “sin” (chaTTa’th). Hence, we have the expression “the iniquity of my sin” (Psalms 32:5). “ I acknowledged my sin to You, and my iniquity I did not hide. I said, I will confess my transgressions to the Lord [continually unfolding the past till all is told]—then You [instantly] forgave me the guilt and iniquity of my sin. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!

And while you are thinking about that – think on this world of deception having over two billion Christians filled with so much iniquity, that they don’t even know they have been made crooked and off the path of righteousness through disobedience to Yehovah; so how can they confess what sin, such as pagan Christmas billions take part in – yet is not even known as being iniquity?? And in truth, do any Christians ever really confess their daily sins to our Father that He already knows?

What about all Christians living by the Torah, laws, and feasts having no pagan holidays? All any need to do is ask themselves what they have ever really sacrificed to help others in need – and they have their answer as in YHVH knows all things; therefore shall reward them equally during world chaos, famine, drought; in plain English – whatever you have done for others shall be returned in the same measure – so spare a crumb, get a crumb, give what you can according to your heart, and what is possible – and our Father will show you His mercy during the coming perilous times.

Psalms 33 001 Psalms 33:17-22

“For though you wash yourself with lye and use much soap, yet your iniquity and guilt are still [upon you; you are] spotted, dirty, and stained before Me, says the Lord. (Jeremiah 2:22)

Do any of today’s shepherds worldwide tell their congregation how and why Yehovah God views them all as spotted, dirty, and stained?

From “guilt” it again passes into the meaning of “punishment of guilt,” just as Latin piaculum may denote both guilt and its punishment. The transition is all the easier in Hebrew because of the Hebrew sense of the intimate relation of sin and suffering, e.g. Genesis 4:13, “My punishment is greater than I can bear”; which is obviously to be preferred to King James Version margin, the Revised Version, margin “Mine iniquity is greater than can be forgiven,” for Cain is not so much expressing sorrow for his sin, as complaining of the severity of his punishment; compare 2 Kings 7:9 (the Revised Version (British and American) “punishment,” the Revised Version margin “iniquity”); Isaiah 5:18 (where for “iniquity” we might have “punishment of iniquity,” as in Leviticus 26:41,43, etc.); Isaiah 40:2 (“iniquity,” the Revised Version margin “punishment”). The phrase “bear iniquity” is a standing expression for bearing its consequences, i.e. its penalty; generally of the sinner bearing the results of his own iniquity (Leviticus 17:16; 20:17,19; Numbers 14:34; Ezekiel 44:10, etc.), but sometimes of one bearing the iniquity of another vicariously, and so taking it away (e.g. Ezekiel 4:4; 18:19 f). Of special interest in the latter sense are the sufferings of the Servant of Yahweh, who shall “bear the iniquities” of the people (Isaiah 53:11; compare Isaiah 53:6).

Other words frequently translated “iniquity” are:

‘awen, literally, “worthlessness,” “vanity,” hence, “naughtiness,” “mischief” (47 times in the King James Version, especially in the phrase “workers of iniquity,” Job 4:8; Psalms 5:5; 6:8; Proverbs 10:29, etc.); `awel and `awlah, literally, “perverseness” (Deuteronomy 32:4; Job 6:29 the King James Version, etc.).

In the New Testament “iniquity” stands for anomia equals properly, “the condition of one without law,” “lawlessness” (so translated in 1John 3:4, elsewhere “iniquity,” e.g. Matthew 7:23), a word which frequently stood for `awon in the Septuagint; and adikia, literally, “unrighteousness” (e.g. Luke 13:27).

Who am I to speak a real truth this world of Christianity wants not?

Did Job choose the way he suffered? How the early years of about Joseph? Daniel in prison and the lion’s den? What about Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego and the fiery furnace? Did Peter and other men of YHVH expect their ways of death? Did Jeremiah want to be let down into a dungeon with mire and left to die? Did Paul want a life with many thorns including false brethren, being stoned and left for dead? What about Ezekiel surrounded by scorpions being prophecy describing this world of Israelite’s who know not their own identity?

Deuteronomy 001Deuteronomy 31:29

What about the signs of the times, and the coming punishment upon this entire world of disobedient, prideful, and very selfish and blinded Christians described in the 66 verses of Lamentations 3?

Ezekiel 7 003Ezekiel 7:4-8

What I know for sure without question or doubt is the indescribable world chaos being en route, and almost upon our entire human race as the beginning of our end under the yoke of pathetic human rule bringing 3 1/2 years affliction, wrath, and suffering followed by 3 1/2 years of great tribulation being the worst timesoftrouble since the creation of humanity; and with this spiritual understanding I am becoming prepared for my journey as one of the 144,000 that I will be a part of. . .

Read well the above link, and then ask yourself, will you also have part in the greatest position that a Christian could ever again gain as becoming a part of YHVHs eternal government? Do you want the hard walk of living on faith, being hated and casting plagues upon a rebellious mankind, and then your own death and resurrection? What I also know is this earthly life has never done me good in 61 years – so the difficult times lying ahead for me bring my only joy because I know where my final end shall be . . .

Why did I leave America at the end of 2006 on a one way ticket to the Philippines with just over one thousand dollars to start a new life with absolutely zero income? Because sin dwells in us all, why was Job, Jeremiah, Paul and all who suffered drawn for YHVHs use?

THE TWO WITNESSES OF REVELATION

Concerning all believers in YHVH and Yeshua upon this earth; and even Jews that don’t believe in who they had crucified — what follows is one of the most important reads being a part of the future of our misled human race; and as you can see by the image below, I am no newbie – yet have not one genuine brother or sister on this earth living by the words of who they all claim to love. “None, no, not one pleases our Father. Psalms 14:2-3 KJV

100_3383

In the 11th chapter of Revelation, two mysterious entities are introduced into the story of the end of this current age:

100_3377100_3385

Who are these “two witnesses” that God will empower at the end of this age to carry His message to a world ruled by the Antichrist?  Some believe that Elijah and Enoch, who were miraculously “taken away” by God (2 Kings 2:11; Gen. 5:24; Heb. 11:5), will return from heaven to prophesy for 3½ years.  Others think that it will be Elijah (who stopped the rain in Israel for 3½ years – I Kings 17:1; Jam. 5:17) and Moses (who turned water to blood and brought plagues on Egypt – Exo. 7-12) who will antagonize the Beast during the 42 months of his reign.  Some religious organizations believe that the two witnesses will be called from within the ranks of their ministry to perform this task.  Another theory is that the Old Testament and the New Testament symbolically comprise these witnesses.  But is there any way to really know who the two witnesses will be?

One vital key to understanding biblical prophecy is letting the Bible interpret itself.  There are many clues to the identity of the two witnesses, but we have to recognize and accept them.

Let’s look at their apparel, which is one of the first clues we’re given about these two.  They are dressed in sackcloth.  What do the Scriptures tell us about the meaning of wearing sackcloth?

ISAIAH 22:12 And in that day the Lord GOD of hosts called for weeping and for mourning, for baldness and for girding with sackcloth. (NKJV)

JEREMIAH 6:26 O daughter of my people, dress in sackcloth and roll about in ashes!  Make mourning as for an only son, most bitter lamentation; for the plunderer will suddenly come upon us. (NKJV)

LAMENTATIONS 2:10 The elders of the daughter of Zion sit on the ground and keep silence; they throw dust on their heads and gird themselves with sackcloth.  The virgins of Jerusalem bow their heads to the ground. (NKJV)

The Scriptures make it clear that the wearing of sackcloth is a sign of mourning.  These two witnesses are clothed in sackcloth because they are officially in mourning.  What they are mourning about will be shown later.

Now let’s look at the specific role these two fulfill as witnesses.  A witness is a person who has seen or knows something, and is therefore capable of giving evidence about it.  There are several scriptural passages that explain the role and function which witnesses fulfill:

DEUTERONOMY 17:6 “Whoever is deserving of death shall be put to death on the testimony of two or three witnesses; he shall not be put to death on the testimony of one witness.  7 The hands of the witnesses shall be the first against him to put him to death, and afterward the hands of all the people.  So you shall put away the evil from among you.” (NKJV)

DEUTERONOMY 19:15 “One witness shall not rise against a man concerning any iniquity or any sin that he commits; by the mouth of two or three witnesses the matter shall be established.” (NKJV)

It is a clear principle in the Torah that the testimony of only one witness is not enough to convict a person of a capital crime.  It takes a minimum of TWO witnesses to convict someone for the death penalty (or any other sin, for that matter).  This same principle is repeated by both Yeshua and Paul in the New Testament:

MATTHEW 18:16 “But if he will not hear, take with you one or two more, that ‘by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.’ ” (NKJV)

II CORINTHIANS 13:1 This will be the third time I am coming to you.  “By the mouth of two or three witnesses every word shall be established.” (NKJV)

According to the Scriptures, there must be two witnesses to an act in order for the sentence of the Law to be carried out.  Since those who accept the mark of the beast and worship him will “drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation” (Rev. 14:10), at least two witnesses to their sins will be necessary to convict and punish them.

Who are the two witnesses mentioned in Revelation 11?  Let’s look elsewhere in the Bible to see if God identifies who His witnesses are and what they will testify about:

ISAIAH 43:1 But now, thus says the LORD, who created you, O Jacob, and He who formed you, O Israel:  “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine. . . .”  10 “You are My witnesses,” declares the LORD, “and My servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe Me and understand that I am He.  Before Me no god was formed, nor will there be one after Me.  11 I, even I, am the LORD, and apart from Me there is no savior.  12 I have revealed and saved and proclaimed — I, and not some foreign god among you.  You are My witnesses,” declares the LORD, “that I am God.” (NIV)

ISAIAH 44:1 But now hear, O Jacob My servant, Israel whom I have chosen!  2 Thus says the LORD who made you, who formed you in the womb and will help you:  Do not fear, O Jacob My servant, Jeshurun whom I have chosen.  3 For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour My spirit upon your descendants, and My blessing on your offspring.  4 They shall spring up like a green tamarisk, like willows by flowing streams.  5 This one will say, “I am the LORD’s,” another will be called by the name of Jacob, yet another will write on the hand, “The LORD’s,” and adopt the name of Israel.  6 Thus says the LORD, the King of Israel, and his Redeemer, the LORD of hosts:  I am the first and I am the last; besides Me there is no god.  7 Who is like Me?  Let them proclaim it, let them declare and set it forth before me.  Who has announced from of old the things to come?  Let them tell us what is yet to be.  8 Do not fear, or be afraid; have I not told you from of old and declared it?  You are my witnesses!  Is there any god besides Me?  There is no other rock; I know not one. (NRSV)

These prophetic passages from Isaiah plainly state that Israel will witness to the fact that there is no other God like YHVH the Father.  This testimony will be a necessary confirmation of the identity of the one true God (John 17:3) during the time the Antichrist is reigning and proclaiming himself to be god (II The. 2:4).  But how can Israel, the chosen people of God, be the TWO witnesses referred to in Revelation?

Christians who haven’t studied the Tanakh (Old Testament) in depth might be surprised to learn that Israel split into two parts after the reign of King Solomon.  This split is recorded in I Kings 12 and II Chronicles 10.  The division resulted in the southern kingdom of Judea (the “House of Judah“) and the northern kingdom of Samaria (the “House of Israel“) in the Holy Land.

The House of Judah was composed of the tribes of Judah and Benjamin (I Kings 12:21; II Chr. 11:12).  The tribe of Levi also eventually sided with the House of Judah, having been rejected as priests by the ruler of the House of Israel (II Chr. 11:13-14).

The 10 tribes (I Kings 11:31, 35) which composed the House of Israel were the tribes of Ephraim, Manasseh, Reuben, Gad, Asher, Naphtali, Simeon, Issachar, Zebulun, and Dan.  These 10 northern tribes were led by the tribe of Ephraim, which was given the blessing of the firstborn by the patriarch Israel on his deathbed (Gen. 48:14-22).

Therefore, we see from the Scriptures that Israel did indeed become “two.”   They can legitimately be recognized as two different, but related, entities.  But is there any other biblical evidence which connects the two houses of Israel with the two witnesses of Revelation 11?

Indeed there is!  Revelation 11:4 gives us the next two vital clues:

REVELATION 11:4 These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands standing before the God of the earth. (NKJV)

We see that the two witnesses are symbolically called “two olive trees” and also “two lampstands.”  We’ll examine each of these symbols in turn and see what the Scriptures have to say about them.

First, let’s see what the Bible says about the “two olive trees.”  Are these olive trees spoken of anywhere else in the Bible?  Yes, they certainly are!

ZECHARIAH 4:1 Now the angel who talked with me came back and wakened me, as a man who is wakened out of his sleep.  2 And he said to me, “What do you see?”  So I said, “I am looking, and there is a lampstand of solid gold with a bowl on top of it, and on the stand seven lamps with seven pipes to the seven lamps.  3 Two olive trees are by it, one at the right of the bowl and the other at its left.”  4 So I answered and spoke to the angel who talked with me, saying, “What are these, my lord?”  5 Then the angel who talked with me answered and said to me, “Do you not know what these are?”  And I said, “No, my lord.”  6 So he answered and said to me:  “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel:  ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ says the LORD of hosts.  7 Who are you, O great mountain?  Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain!  And he shall bring forth the capstone with shouts of “Grace, grace to it!” ‘ ”  8 Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying:  9 “The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this temple; his hands shall also finish it.  Then you will know that the LORD of hosts has sent me to you.  10 For who has despised the day of small things?  For these seven rejoice to see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel.  They are the eyes of the LORD, which scan to and fro throughout the whole earth.”  11 Then I answered and said to him, “What are these two olive trees — at the right of the lampstand and at its left?”  12 And I further answered and said to him, “What are these two olive branches that drip into the receptacles of the two gold pipes from which the golden oil drains?”  13 Then he answered me and said, “Do you not know what these are?”  And I said, “No, my lord.”  14 So he said, “These are the two anointed ones, who stand beside the Lord of the whole earth.” (NKJV)

In Zechariah 4 we see the same symbols that are used in Revelation 11 — olive trees and a lampstand.  The two olive trees are said to be “the anointed ones” (literally “sons of the oil”) who stand beside the Lord of the whole earth” (Zec. 4:14).  But maddeningly, the angel doesn’t give Zechariah (or us) a direct answer regarding the identity of these two trees.  We must look in the book of Jeremiah to find the identification of the olive trees:

JEREMIAH 11:16 The LORD called your name, Green Olive Tree, lovely and of good fruit.  With the noise of a great tumult He has kindled fire on it, and its branches are broken.  17 For the LORD of hosts, who planted you, has pronounced doom against you for the evil of the House of Israel and of the House of Judah, which they have done against themselves to provoke Me to anger in offering incense to Baal.” (NKJV)

In Jeremiah 11 we see that both houses of Israel are called a “green olive tree.”  They were planted and named by Yah the Father Himself.  We can be certain from Scripture that both the House of Judah and the House of Israel are symbolically labeled as olive trees.  But is there any further evidence?  Yes there is!

HOSEA 14:5 I will be like the dew to Israel; he shall grow like the lily, and lengthen his roots like Lebanon.  6 His branches shall spread; his beauty shall be like an olive tree, and his fragrance like Lebanon. (NKJV)

The prophet Hosea preached several decades before the fall of the House of Israel to the Assyrians (c. 722 BCE).  Although he addresses both the House of Judah and the House of Israel in his prophecies, his primary message is directed at the House of Israel, also known as Ephraim.

To graphically illustrate the House of Israel’s rebellion against Him, YHVH commanded Hosea to take a harlot for a wife (Hos. 1:2).  This harlot bore Hosea three children.  God had Hosea name them symbolically to show how He was going to deal with the House of Israel.  The children were named Jezreel (lit. “God sows”), Lo-Ruhamah (lit. “no mercy”), and Lo-Ammi (lit. “no people”).

All three of these names described God’s punishment on the House of Israel, as He explained to Hosea.  Jezreel represented God’s sowing of the House of Israel among the Gentile nations of the earth after they were carried away into captivity by the Assyrians (Hos. 8:8; Zec. 10:7-10).  Lo-Ruhamah denoted the fact that Yah would no longer have mercy upon the House of Israel, allowing them to be taken captive because of their sins (Hos. 1:6).  Lo-Ammi pictured the gradual loss of national identity by the House of Israel.  After they were conquered by Assyria, they lost the knowledge of who they were.  Scattered throughout the Gentile nations of the world, the House of Israel forgot that they were part of the chosen people of YHVH (Hos. 1:9), and eventually came to view themselves as Gentiles.

With this background, we are now ready to look at the apostle Paul’s revelation on Israel the olive tree:

ROMANS 11:16 – For if the firstfruit is holy, the lump is also holy; and if the root is holy, so are the branches.  17 And if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and with them became a partaker of the root and fatness of the olive tree, 18 do not boast against the branches.  But if you do boast, remember that you do not support the root, but the root supports you.  19 You will say then, “Branches were broken off that I might be grafted in.”  20 Well said.  Because of unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by faith.  Do not be haughty, but fear.  21 For if God did not spare the natural branches, He may not spare you either.  22 Therefore consider the goodness and severity of God:  on those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in His goodness.  Otherwise you also will be cut off.  23 And they also, if they do not continue in unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again.  24 For if you were cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature,[Easu the Edomite]  and were grafted contrary to nature into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these, who are natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree?  25 For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in.  26 And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written:  “The Deliverer will come out of Zion, and He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob; (NKJV)

Two olive trees are mentioned in this passage of Scripture from Paul:  one that is cultivated, and one that is wild.  Who or what do these two olive trees represent?

The cultivated olive tree depicts the House of Judah, which provided the foundation for the early church (Acts 2:41; 21:20).  This is the olive tree of salvation, for Yeshua said that “salvation is of the Jews” (John 4:22).  Paul portrays those Jews who rejected Yeshua as branches which were broken off from the cultivated olive tree because they did not believe in the Messiah that YHVH sent to His people.

God told Hosea that He was going to cast the House of Israel away because of their sins (Hos. 1:6).  However, He said that He would not cast away the House of Judah (Hos. 1:7), although later their sins were even worse than those of the House of Israel (Eze. 23:11).  YHVH punished the House of Judah, but He never discarded them completely.

The House of Judah is God’s “lawgiver” (lit. “scribe” – Gen. 49:10; Psa. 60:7; 108:8; cf. Rom. 3:1-3).  The Jews had, and continue to have, a major part in the plan YHVH is accomplishing.  As a whole, only the House of Judah has continued to keep God’s Sabbaths, which are the sign between YHVH and His people (Exo. 31:13-17).  Because of this, they alone have been recognized as God’s covenant people down to this day.  However, the House of Israel lost their identity.  They were absorbed into the nations wherein they were scattered.  But God has never lost track of them (Amos 9:9).

This brings us to the wild olive tree Paul speaks of in this passage of Scripture.  Many people equate the wild olive tree with Gentile believers who accept Yeshua as the Messiah.  But is this really who Paul is referring to here?  There is a telling phrase used by Paul in Romans 11:25 that exactly identifies who he is talking about:

ROMANS 11:25 For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in.  26 And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written:  “The Deliverer will come out of Zion, and He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob; (NKJV)

Paul tells us that ALL of Israel, both the House of Judah and the House of Israel, has been blinded to the truth for a period of time.  However, he says that wild olive branches will continue to be grafted in to the cultivated olive tree to replace those branches broken off until the fullness of the Gentiles has been added.  Does the Bible tell us who this “fullness of the Gentiles” is?  Yes, it most certainly does!

GENESIS 48:17 And Joseph saw that his father was putting his right hand on the head of Ephraim; and it was evil in his eyes.  And he took hold of his father’s hand to turn it from Ephraim’s head to the head of Manasseh.  18 And Joseph said to his father, “Not so, my father!  For this one is the firstborn; put your right hand on his head.”  19 And his father refused, and said, “I know, my son, I know.  He also shall be a people, and he shall become great.  But his younger brother shall become greater than he, and his seed shall become the fullness of the nations.”  20 And he blessed them in that day, saying, “In you shall Israel bless, saying, ‘May God make you like Ephraim and Manasseh!’ ” And he put Ephraim before Manasseh. (The Interlinear Bible)

On his deathbed, Israel blessed Ephraim when he adopted him and his brother Manasseh.  Israel said that Ephraim’s offspring would become “the fullness of the nations.”  In Hebrew, this phrase is melo hagoyim.  Interestingly, this phrase can also be translated “the fullness of the Gentiles.”  It was Ephraim (representative/leader of the lost 10 tribes of the House of Israel) that Paul had in mind when he spoke of the wild olive tree in Romans 11!

This conclusion is verified by Paul’s earlier statement about these “Gentiles” (Romans 9):

ROMANS 9:22 What if God, wanting to show His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, 23 and that He might make known the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy, which He had prepared beforehand for glory, 24 even us whom He called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?  25 As He says also in Hosea:  “I will call them My people, who were not My people, and her beloved, who was not beloved.  26 And it shall come to pass in the place where it was said to them, ‘You are not My people,’ there they shall be called sons of the living God.” (NKJV)

In this passage, Paul quotes from Hosea’s prophecy about the eventual recovery of those Israelites (Ephraim and the tribes associated with him) who were cast away by God because of their sins (Hos. 1:10).  Either Paul was using this prophetic Scripture out of context and applying it to unrelated Gentiles, or the Gentiles he was speaking of were actually the offspring of the lost Israelite tribes.

Other Scriptures indicate that Paul understood that most of the Gentiles he was preaching to were in fact descendants of the 10 lost tribes who had been scattered 800 years earlier and had intermingled with all the nations round about Judea.  To prove this assertion, let’s first look at a telling statement by Paul found in the 10th chapter of 1st Corinthians:

I CORINTHIANS 10:1 Moreover, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud, all passed through the sea, 2 all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, 3 all ate the same spiritual food, 4 and all drank the same spiritual drink.  For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ.  5 But with most of them God was not well pleased, for their bodies were scattered in the wilderness. (NKJV)

Paul is writing here to a group of former pagan Gentiles (I Cor. 12:2) in Corinth, Greece.  Yet in using the example of the Israelites who had been delivered from Egypt by God during the Exodus, he calls them “all OUR fathers” (I Cor. 10:1).  He certainly wasn’t referring to them as “fathers” in a spiritual sense, because these people rebelled against God and died while wandering in the desert for 40 years.  Therefore, Paul must have been speaking of them as the Corinthians’ PHYSICAL fathers!

The Israelite ancestry of those “Gentiles” was known to the apostle Paul, as his statement to King Agrippa also implies:

ACTS 26:6 “And now I stand and am judged for the hope of the promise made by God to our fathers.  7 To this promise our twelve tribes, earnestly serving God night and day, hope to attain.  For this hope’s sake, King Agrippa, I am accused by the Jews.” (NKJV)

The final reunification of the two houses of Israel described in the Tanakh (Eze. 37:15-28; Isa. 11:12-13; etc.) had not been accomplished at the time Paul spoke.  In fact, it still has not been fully accomplished.  Therefore, the 12 tribes he referenced, who were “earnestly serving God night and day,” must have included so-called “Gentile” believers who were, in fact, offspring of the lost tribes of the House of Israel!

Paul wasn’t the only one who understood this truth.  In the salutation of his epistle, James also shows that he knew specifically to whom he was writing when he addressed the body of believers, both Jews and “Gentiles”:

JAMES 1:1 James, a bondservant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad:  Greetings. (NKJV)

What Paul revealed in his epistle to the Roman assembly was the same thing Yeshua spoke of in the 10th chapter of John’s Gospel:

JOHN 10:16 “And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.” (NKJV)

Here Yeshua tells his disciples that he had sheep which belonged to another flock.  He was speaking of the ones to whom he was sent, the lost sheep of the House of Israel (Matt. 15:24).  These sheep had lost their identity and thought that they were Gentiles.  But Yeshua knew who (and where) they were, and it was his divinely sanctioned job to retrieve them for the Father.

Gentiles not of Israelite descent have certainly been included in God’s congregation through the centuries(Exo. 12:38; Isa. 56:3-8).  Yah has always made a way for godly foreigners to become part of His chosen people.  But Scripture indicates that those who have been called by God to His Son (John 6:44, 65) are primarily physical Israelites, both from the House of Judah (the cultivated olive tree) and the House of Israel (the wild olive tree).  These two olive trees are the two witnesses of Revelation 11.

The meaning of the “lampstand” symbolism used in Revelations 11:4 is further confirmation of this identity.  We only have to go back to the 1st chapter of Revelation to see what “lampstands” represent:

REVELATION 1:12 Then I turned to see the voice that spoke with me.  And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands, 13 and in the midst of the seven lampstands one like the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band. . . .  20 “The mystery of the seven stars which you saw in my right hand, and the seven golden lampstands:  The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands which you saw are the seven churches.” (NKJV)

The lampstands here depict seven ekklesiai, the seven Asian churches listed in Revelation 1:11.  The Greek noun ekklesia literally means “an assembly of called out ones.”  We can see that in the book of Revelation, a lampstand represents a called out group of people.  The symbolism fits perfectly with the House of Judah and the House of Israel, who were at first called out of Egypt together to be God’s people.  At the end of this age, they will be called out once more to witness against the people of this earth when they forsake YHVH and worship the Antichrist.

The scriptural evidence is overwhelming that the two witnesses, who are symbolically called two olive trees and two lampstands, are in fact the House of Judah and the House of Israel.  With this understanding, we can now clearly see the calling and sealing of these servants of God as it is described in Revelation 7:

REVELATION 7:1 After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth, that no wind might blow on earth or sea or against any tree.  2 Then I saw another angel ascending from the rising of the sun, with the seal of the living God, and he called with a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm earth and sea, 3 saying, “Do not harm the earth or the sea or the trees, until we have sealed the servants of our God on their foreheads.”  4 And I heard the number of the sealed, 144,000, sealed from every tribe of the sons of Israel:  5 12,000 from the tribe of Judah were sealed, 12,000 from the tribe of Reuben, 12,000 from the tribe of Gad, 6 12,000 from the tribe of Asher, 12,000 from the tribe of Naphtali, 12,000 from the tribe of Manasseh, 7 12,000 from the tribe of Simeon, 12,000 from the tribe of Levi, 12,000 from the tribe of Issachar, 8 12,000 from the tribe of Zebulun, 12,000 from the tribe of Joseph, 12,000 from the tribe of Benjamin were sealed. (ESV)

The 144,000 sealed from the tribes of Israel have long been a mystery.  But now the purpose and mission of these witnesses can be understood.  These 144,000 servants will form the two witnesses YHVH uses in the end-time to show the world that He is the one true God.  These witnesses can be divided into two groups:

The House of Judah

  • The tribe of Judah
  • The tribe of Benjamin
  • The tribe of Levi

The House of Israel

  • The tribe of Joseph
  • The tribe of Manasseh
  • The tribe of Reuben
  • The tribe of Gad
  • The tribe of Asher
  • The tribe of Naphtali
  • The tribe of Simeon
  • The tribe of Issachar
  • The tribe of Zebulun

The tribe of Joseph has a double portion among the tribes (with Manasseh replacing the missing tribe of Dan), as his father Israel promised (Gen. 48:22).  Why is the tribe of Dan omitted from the twelve tribes sealed in Revelation 7?

In Genesis 49, Israel gives deathbed prophecies to all his sons regarding their fate in the “last days” (Gen. 49:1).  The prophecy for the tribe of Dan explains the reason why he is not included as part of the two witnesses:

GENESIS 49:16 “Dan shall judge his people as one of the tribes of Israel.” (NKJV)

Since one cannot be both a witness and a judge in a matter, the tribe of Dan was chosen by God to be the judge in this end-time situation.  He is prophesied to be the judge of those among the offspring of Israel that forsake the true God and follow the beast (Antichrist).  However, the nature of Dan’s judgment is not detailed.

The prophet Joel speaks of the sanctifying of the servants of God in the end times:

JOEL 2:28 “And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions.  29 And also on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days.  30 And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth:  Blood and fire and pillars of smoke.  31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of the LORD.  32 And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.  For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance, as the LORD has said, among the remnant whom the LORD calls.” (NKJV)

Peter used this very passage of Scripture to explain the miracle which occurred on Pentecost in Acts 2.  But there remains an ultimate fulfillment of this prophecy which will occur during the unfolding of the events recorded in Revelation (compare Joel 2:30-31 with Rev. 6:12, 8:12).

The future sealing of the 144,000 will most likely occur on an upcoming Shavu’ot (also known as “Pentecost”).  The Jews associate trumpets with three of God’s commanded Feast Days:

  • The “First Trumpet” is sounded on Shavu’ot.
  • The “Last Trumpet” is sounded on Yom Teruah (also called Rosh Hashanah and the “Feast of Trumpets”).
  • The “Great Trumpet” is sounded on Yom Kippur (also known as the “Day of Atonement”).

When will the “first trumpet” of Revelation be sounded?  At the time shown in Revelation 8:7, which chronologically is a very short time after the 144,000 are sealed in Revelation 7:4-8.  The Spirit of God fell upon the 120 (Acts 1:15) after “the day of Pentecost had fully come” (Acts 2:1).  In like manner, the first trumpet of Revelation will be blown after the 144,000 (120 x 12 x 100) have been sealed, when this future Pentecost has “fully come.”

Now let’s look more closely at what these “two witnesses” will be doing during their 1,260 days of testimony (Rev. 11:3).  We are given two glimpses into their future activities by events that occurred during the ministry of Messiah Yeshua nearly 2,000 years ago:

LUKE 9:1 Then he called his twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases.  2 He sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.  3 And he said to them, “Take nothing for the journey, neither staffs nor bag nor bread nor money; and do not have two tunics apiece.  4 Whatever house you enter, stay there, and from there depart.  5 And whoever will not receive you, when you go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet as a testimony against them.” (NKJV)

The commission to the 12 disciples to go out and preach the kingdom of God to “the lost sheep of the house of Israel” (Matt. 10:6) was the first antetype of the sending out of the 144,000 at the end of the age.  Yeshua’s instructions and warnings regarding what the disciples were to expect during their mission is found in Matthew’s parallel account of this event:

MATTHEW 10:16 “Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.  17 But beware of men, for they will deliver you up to councils and scourge you in their synagogues.  18 You will be brought before governors and kings for my sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles.  19 But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should speak.  For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak; 20 for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.  21 Now brother will deliver up brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death.  22 And you will be hated by all for my name’s sake.  But he who endures to the end will be saved.  23 When they persecute you in this city, flee to another.  For assuredly, I say to you, you will not have gone through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes.  24 A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master.  25 It is enough for a disciple that he be like his teacher, and a servant like his master.  If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more will they call those of his household!  26 Therefore do not fear them.  For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known.” (NKJV)

Yeshua told the original 12 disciples what would happen to them during their preaching of the gospel of the kingdom of God.  Yet his words also apply to what the 144,000 should expect as they go out into the world to preach the age-ending coming of the kingdom.

Yeshua’s comment that “he who endures to the end will be saved” (Matt. 10:22) is evidence that these words also pertain to the witnesses at the end of the age.  This same statement was repeated by Yeshua just before his crucifixion.  In response to the question his disciples posed regarding “the sign of his coming and of the end of the age” (Matt. 24:3), Yeshua said:

MATTHEW 24:9 “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for my name’s sake.  10 And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another.  11 Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many.  12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.  13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved.  14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.” (NKJV)

Clearly the Messiah was not speaking solely to the 12 disciples here.  They did not take the gospel of the kingdom into all nations as a witness, and the end of the age and his return did not come during their days.  Therefore, we know that these words were also intended for a later group of witnesses.

Luke’s account shows that a second antetypical group was sent forth after the original 12, with similar instructions:

LUKE 10:1 After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to go.  2 And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few.  Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.  3 Go your way; behold, I am sending you out as lambs in the midst of wolves.  4 Carry no moneybag, no knapsack, no sandals, and greet no one on the road.  5 Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace be to this house!’  6 And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest upon him.  But if not, it will return to you.  7 And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer deserves his wages.  Do not go from house to house.  8 Whenever you enter a town and they receive you, eat what is set before you.  9 Heal the sick in it and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’  10 But whenever you enter a town and they do not receive you, go into its streets and say, 11 ‘Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet we wipe off against you.  Nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near.’ ” (ESV)

The “72” disciples mentioned in Luke 10:1 above is said to be “70” in some other ancient manuscripts.  The reason for this discrepancy is unknown, but the difference is not confined to specific manuscript groupings.  Both Alexandrian and Western Greek manuscripts have examples of “72,” as do some Syriac manuscripts.  In The Gospel of Luke: A Commentary on the Greek Text, I. Howard Marshall states that manuscript “evidence in favour of 72 is the stronger” (p. 415).

Just as the number “12” is linked to “144,000” (12 x 12,000 = 144,000), the number “72” is also related to the number “144,000” in an interesting way:

72 x 2,000 = 144,000

About 2,000 years ago, Yeshua dispatched the 72 disciples “two by two” on their mission to prepare for the first harvest by preaching the gospel of the kingdom.  Soon, the 144,000 from the two houses of Israel will once again be sent out “two by two.”  Each pair of these witnesses will travel throughout the cities of the world to proclaim that the kingdom of God is coming soon in its fullness.

LUKE 10:17 The seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!”  18 And he said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.  19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you. 20 Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” (ESV)

The 72 disciples were given power over the demons in the days of Yeshua’s ministry.  In like manner, the 144,000 will also have such authority over “serpents and scorpions,” the demonic horde released from the Abyss (Rev. 9:1-11).

Now let’s look at the fate of these two (144,000) witnesses, as revealed by John’s vision:

100_3385

After the witnesses have finished their testimony before all the nations, YHVH will allow the Antichrist who had previously come up out of the Abyss (Rev. 9:11) to make war against them and kill them.  For additional information on this Beast and his activities in the end-time, see my article “Who Is The ‘Destroyer’?

For many people (formerly including myself), the end of verse 8 clearly establishes Jerusalem as the place where the witnesses will die.  It’s commonly understood that Yeshua was crucified in Jerusalem.  However, John’s very next use of the phrase “the GREAT CITY” in Revelation 14:8 shows that this is a reference to Babylon the Great, not the earthly Jerusalem.

The “great city” of Revelation 11:8 where our Lord was crucified is Satan’s Babylonian system.  Babylon the Great is called a CITY because it is patterned after the original city of Babel (Gen. 11:1-5).  This Babel (i.e., Babylon) was the first successful attempt at GLOBAL government on the earth.  Virtually all of mankind was gathered together in this one city under the rule of Nimrod, the original type of the Antichrist.  The famous Tower in the original city of Babel evidenced the rebellion of mankind against God; this rebellion will be replicated at the end of the age.

The Babel system of Satan is prophesied to rise up and rule over God’s people seven times before it is finally destroyed at the end of this age by the coming of the Messiah.  At the time John saw his vision of that system (Rev. 17:1-11), five of the Babel-patterned kingdoms had already arisen and fallen.  These five were: (1) Egypt, (2) Assyria, (3) Nebuchadnezzar’s Babylon, (4) Medo-Persia, and (5) Greece.  The one that was then “alive” was (6) Rome.  Then comes the final one, (7) the end-time Babylon the Great, which in John’s day was still far in the future.

When John spoke of the “great city” where the Lord was crucified, he was speaking of Satan’s Babylonian system “Beast,” NOT the physical city of Jerusalem.  Rome was part of that Beast, the 6th incarnation of the “great city Babel” that existed in John’s day.  It was within the Roman Empire that Messiah Yeshua was crucified.  Indeed, without the Roman involvement, Messiah would NOT have been crucified, since crucifixion was a uniquely Roman form of capital punishment.

The phrase “make war against them” implies that action against the two witnesses is much more involved than just having two men killed.  The Greek word used for “witnesses” in this passage is martusin; the English word “martyr” is derived from the singular form of this Greek word.  At the end of their testimony, all 144,000 witnesses will be martyred for God:

100_3387100_3382Revelation 11:10-12

Such will be the hatred of the Antichrist-worshiping masses for these 144,000 witnesses that their bodies will be left to rot in the streets of cities all over the world after they are beheaded by the forces of the Beast.  The world [and all of today’s misled religions] will be so glad to see these two groups of witnesses slain that they will declare a global holiday and rejoice over their deaths.  But their defeat is not the end of the story:

Three-and-a-half days after the Beast is allowed to slay the witnesses of the House of Judah and the House of Israel (a day for every year they prophesied in the cities of the world), Yeshua the Messiah is going to raise them from the dead in the sight of all their enemies.  This event will cause the Antichrist to lose a 10th of his kingdom and bring to a close the 6th trumpet (also called “the 2nd woe”-Rev. 11:14), setting the stage for the end of the age at the 7th trumpet (Rev. 11:15-18).

After the Messiah establishes his kingdom and begins to rule from Jerusalem, these witnesses shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years (Rev. 20:4-6).  This is the reward of those from the House of Judah and the House of Israel who are called to be the witnesses of YHVH at the end of the age.  Amen!

THE GODS OF THE NATIONS

We all truly live within a world of deception so great, that even all those having good intent backed with decades of study, writings, prayers, and even self sacrifice through living conditions, health, and other issues have also been deceived; however all is according to the will and purpose of YHVH. Now my life at 61 has drastically changed through my strong addiction of spiritual truth set before me rather than my past decades of learning only partial truth through mixed doctrines, mistranslated words in all English Bibles, and massive division in not only Christianity, but all religions and beliefs worldwide. In YHVHs time, all will learn truth and righteousness – but until that time arrives during the millennial kingdom, only chosen firstfruits are being fed spiritual truth unknown to all of this world.

In our modern era of advanced technology, if something cannot be quantified by science or directly observed with the five senses, many now think it unsophisticated or outright foolish to believe in it.  Even some religious people have succumbed to this secular mindset.  Consequently, today the supernatural spirit realm revealed in the Bible has been redefined, minimized, or outright rejected by a significant number of people.

Yet this is no new position (Ecc. 1:9); the Sadducees of Yeshua’s day also rejected the existence of angels and spirits (Acts 23:8).  In the first centuries after the founding of the New Testament church, rabbinic Judaism and nascent Christianity abandoned the scriptural teaching on the spirit realm.   Both groups redefined their theological positions to differentiate themselves from one another.  As a result, most Jews and Christians now view angels through the lens of their respective traditions rather than what the Bible actually says.

However, the true history of this world is much different than what most have been taught and now believe.  The Holy Scriptures reveal a fantastic tale of powerful spirit beings that have been and continue to be intimately involved in directing and governing the affairs of mankind.  As disclosed in the Bible (the world’s ONLY standard of truth), this involvement goes back to humanity’s origin at the very beginning of creation.

In this article, we’re going to look at the role that these mighty spirit beings called “‘elohim” (“gods”) have played in the history of mankind.  The role of the ‘elohim in human history is generally unknown, ignored, or willfully rejected by mainstream Christianity.   However, there is a considerable amount of information in the Bible about this topic.  In addition to the Scriptures, we will refer to several ancient writings which depict the established view at the time of Yeshua.  This ancient understanding contradicts later religious beliefs that eventually became entrenched as orthodox doctrine.

In his letter to the Ephesians, the apostle Paul makes a statement that is often repeated but not generally well understood:

EPHESIANS 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. (NIV)

Who are these “rulers,” these “authorities,” these “powers,” these “spiritual forces of evil” that rule in our world and in the first two heavens (i.e., the skies and outer space)?  Where did they come from?  How did they receive their authority to rule?

IN THE BEGINNING – THE LIGHT

For an understanding of where these ‘elohey hagoyim (“gods of the nations”), also called the beney ha’elohim (“sons of God”) originated, we must go back to the very beginning, recorded in Genesis 1.  Here we see the figurative description of the origin of the greatest “Son of God”:

GENESIS 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth [ha’aretz].  2 The earth [ha’aretz] was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep.  And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. (NKJV)

In Hebrew, the root word ‘eretz (“earth”) can either be viewed as the entire world, or “land” as opposed to bodies of water.  The context of a statement in the Bible has to determine the meaning of this word.  In these two verses, ha’aretz is a reference to the entire earth.  At this point in the creation sequence, the earth was simply an unfinished mass of raw materials that would afterward be used to fashion all things.

GENESIS 1:3 Then God said, “Let there be Light“; and there was Light.  4 And God saw the Light, that it was good; and God divided the Light from the darkness.  5 God called the Light “Day,” and the darkness He called “Night.”  So the evening and the morning were the first day. (NKJV)

This mysterious passage is one of the most ignored or discounted in the whole Bible.  “The Light” that God brought forth first is NOT what we commonly recognize as literal light.  At this point in the narrative, the creation of the physical sources of light (the sun, moon, and stars) was still several days away (cf. Gen. 1:14-19).

There are other passages of Scripture that shed some light on the identity of this first LIGHT.  In fact, the Gospel of John starts with a parallel passage to Genesis 1 that clearly explains the identity of the first Light:

JOHN 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  2 He was in the beginning with God.  3 All things were made THROUGH him, and without him nothing was made that was made.  4 In him was life, and the life was the Light of men.  5 And the Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.  6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.  7 This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe.  8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.  9 That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.  10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, and the world did not know him. (NKJV)

JOHN 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.  17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.  18 He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.  19 And this is the condemnation, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than Light, because their deeds were evil.  20 For everyone practicing evil hates the Light and does not come to the Light, lest his deeds should be exposed.  21 But he who does the truth comes to the Light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.” (NKJV)

JOHN 8:12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the Light of the world.  He that follows me shall by no means walk in darkness, but will have the Light of life.” (EMTV)

JOHN 12:35 Then Jesus said to them, “A little while longer the Light is with you.  Walk while you have the Light, lest darkness overtake you; he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going.  36 While you have the Light, believe in the Light, that you may become sons of Light.”  These things Jesus spoke, and departed, and was hidden from them. (NKJV)

As the apostle John records many times, the preincarnate Messiah was YHVH’s firstborn, the prototypical Light that He brought forth on the first day of creation.  The Gospel of John is not the only place in Scripture that identifies Yeshua in the language of Genesis 1:3-5:

2 PETER 1:17 For he [i.e., Yeshua] received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is My Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”  18 We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain.  19 And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a Light shining in a dark place, until the Day dawns and the Morning Star rises in your hearts. (NIV)

1 THESSALONIANS 5:5 You are all sons of the Light and sons of the Day.  We do not belong to the night or to the darkness.  6 So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled.  7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night.  8 But since we belong to the Day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.  9 For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. (NIV)

REVELATION 21:22 But I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.  23 The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it.  The Lamb is its Light. (NKJV)

In his letter to the church in Laodicea, Yeshua plainly states that he was the initial ‘elohim that God brought into existence, the first of YHVH’s finished works of creation:

REVELATION 3:14 “And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write, ‘ These things says the amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God:‘ ” (NKJV)

Proverbs 8 speaks figuratively of the Messiah as “Wisdom” (cf. 1 Cor. 1:24) and tells us that the Almighty Father used him as His “master worker” (Pro. 8:30) to complete the creation of the heavens and the earth.  Yet this scriptural identification is rejected by most Christians because they have been erroneously taught that Yeshua is the uncreated creator, one of three co-equal and co-eternal persons in a Trinitarian godhead.

Additionally, other related scriptural statements describing Yeshua’s role in the creation are not usually used to qualify the statement that he created EVERYTHING (John 1:3).  However, a closer look at all the relevant Scriptures reveals that this prevailing view is not supported by the actual text of the Bible.

In Genesis 1:1-2, context shows that ha’aretz refers to the whole earth, which is elsewhere called tevel (the “world”) in Hebrew.  However, ‘eretz can simply refer just to dry land, as opposed to the seas.  This distinction is important in understanding what is said about Messiah’s role in creation in Proverbs 8:

PROVERBS 8:22 The LORD created me at the beginning of His work, the first of His acts of long ago.  23 Ages ago I was set up, at the first, before the beginning of the earth [‘aretz].  24 When there were no depths I was brought forth, when there were no springs abounding with water.  25 Before the mountains had been shaped, before the hills, I was brought forth — 26 when He had not yet made earth [‘eretz] and fields, or the world‘s [tevel] first bits of soil.  27 When He established the heavens, I was there, when He drew a circle on the face of the deep, 28 when He made firm the skies above, when He established the fountains of the deep, 29 when He assigned to the sea its limit, so that the waters might not transgress His command, when He marked out the foundations of the earth [‘aretz], 30 then I was beside Him, like a master worker; and I was daily His delight, rejoicing before Him always, 31 rejoicing in His inhabited world [tevel ‘aretzo] and delighting in the human race. (NRSV)

As my article on the identity of the Messiah shows, early “church fathers” such as Ignatius and Justin Martyr often used this passage in Proverbs 8 to explain the identity of Yeshua.  Here, the form ‘aretz refers to the earth as a whole, while ‘eretz speaks just of the dry land.  The Messiah states that he was brought into existence before the completion of the unformed world commenced (vv. 22-23).  He goes on to explain in detail that he was the “master worker” at the side of YHVH when He shaped the mountains and hills, formed the soil, set the boundaries of the seas, and eventually created mankind in the process of finishing the creation (vv. 24-31).

This description in Proverbs 8 supports the details we are given in the New Testament about the Messiah’s role in creation:

JOHN 1:10 He was in the world [kosmo], and the world [kosmos] was made THROUGH him, and the world [kosmos] did not know him. (NKJV)

The Greek word kosmos is usually translated as “the world” or “the universe.”  However, the Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament and Other Early Christian Literature (BDAG) says that its original meaning was “that which serves to beautify through decoration, adornment, adorning.”  The Messiah was the “master worker” in charge of adorning the earth and the heavens with all those things which God had planned for His creation (land, mountains, hills, seas, lakes, planets, stars, life).  Paul’s statement in Colossians 1 about Yeshua’s role in creation confirms this:

COLOSSIANS 1:15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation; 16 for in him all things in heaven and on earth were created, things visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or powers — all things have been created THROUGH him and for him. (NRSV)  17 He existed before all things, and he holds everything together. (CJB)

Notice that this passage from Colossians doesn’t say that Messiah created everything, but rather it states that all things “IN heaven and ON earth” were created through him by God Almighty.  The author of Hebrews makes a similar statement regarding God’s utilization of the Messiah at the beginning of his letter:

HEBREWS 1:1 At many moments in the past and by many means, God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets; but 2 in our time, the final days, He has spoken to us in the person of His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things and THROUGH whom He made the ages. (NJB)

The first two verses of the Bible (Gen. 1:1-2) show that the unfinished and unpopulated heavens and earth were in existence BEFORE the creation of the Light on Day One.  The New Testament explains that Messiah was the one through whom God the Father created all the things IN the heavens and ON the earth.  When the totality of Scripture is examined, we see the Bible teaches that under YHVH’s supervision, the Messiah was the primary one who developed and completed His creation.

THE MORNING STARS – THE SONS OF GOD

Did Messiah the “master worker” act alone in the endeavor of creation?  Or does Scripture indicate that others were also involved in the process of creation?  We are not told directly, but numerous clues are given that allow us to deduce the answer.

The book of Job gives us some information about the creation from YHVH Himself, as He questions Job’s understanding of His plan:

JOB 38:4 Where were you when I established the earth?  Tell Me, if you have understanding.  5 Who fixed its dimensions?  Certainly you know!  Who stretched a measuring line across it?  6 What supports its foundations?  Or who laid its cornerstone 7 while the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God [beney ‘elohim] shouted for joy? (CSB)

From this passage, we can see that the “morning stars / sons of God” (i.e., angels) were present during the creation.  However, Genesis 1 does not tell us specifically WHEN during creation week these spirit beings were created.

In the Jewish Midrash, Rabbi Yochanan ben Zakkai taught that the angels were brought forth on the second day of creation.  He placed their creation at the time immediately after YHVH divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament.  Rabbi Yochanan based his understanding on Genesis 1:6-8, as clarified by Psalm 104:3-4:

GENESIS 1:6 Then God said, “Let there be an expanse between the waters, separating water from water.”  7 So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above the expanse.  And it was so.  8 God called the expanse “sky.”  Evening came, and then morning: the second day. (CSB)

PSALM 104:3 He lays the beams of His upper chambers in the waters, who makes the clouds His chariot, who walks on the wings of the wind, 4 who makes His angels spirits, His ministers a flame of fire. (NKJV)

Genesis 1:6-8 speaks of the division of the waters into two portions: the waters on the earth and the waters above in the heavens (i.e., skies).  Psalm 104:3-4, which Rabbi Yochanan understood to be speaking of Day Two of creation, contains the additional detail that YHVH made His spirit beings, the angels, after separating out the upper portion of water from the lower.  As Paul tells us (Col. 1:16), the Messiah would have been the instrument through which the angelic “thrones, dominions, rulers and powers” were brought into existence on this day.

LET “US” MAKE MAN

Now that we have located the origin and role of the Messiah in creation, as well as the foundation of the angelic realm, let’s move forward in the narrative to Day Six.  On this day we see an interesting statement recorded in Scripture:

GENESIS 1:26 Then God said, “Let US make man in OUR image, in OUR likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” (NIV)

The identity of those God is speaking to in this verse is clearly presented in the ancient Aramaic translation and commentary known as Targum Pseudo-Jonathan:

And the Lord said to the angels who ministered before Him, who had been created in the second day of the creation of the world, “Let us make man in Our image, in Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl which are in the atmosphere of heaven, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every reptile creeping upon the earth.” (Gen. 1:26, Targum Pseudo-Jonathan, translated by J.W. Etheridge)

Despite the ancient witnesses regarding Genesis 1:26, this verse is often used by modern Christian scholars to attempt to prove that the doctrine of the Trinity can be found in the Old Testament.  Regarding this erroneous assertion, The Eerdmans Bible Dictionary (Eerdmans) states:

The “us” in “Let us make man in our image” (Gen. 1:26; cf. 3:22; 11:6-7) refers to the “sons of God” or lesser “gods” mentioned elsewhere (6:1-4; Job 1:6; Ps. 29:1), here viewed as a heavenly council centered around the one God (cf. Ps. 82:1).  In later usage these probably would be called “angels.” (p. 1019, “Trinity”)

If the angelic “morning stars” (Job 38:7), including the preincarnate Messiah (cf. 2 Pet. 1:19), are the “us” mentioned in Genesis 1:26, what does it mean that mankind was created in the image of YHVH and these “sons of God”?

The answer is not hidden; in the final half of verse 26 we are told that man was given RULE over the rest of the creatures that had previously been created to populate the earth.  Just as YHVH rules over all His creation, mankind was given dominion over all lower life forms on the earth.  This understanding of the “image” is described in Harper’s Bible Commentary on verse 26:

The context suggests that humanity is the image of God in the dominion it exercises over the rest of creation; ancient Near Eastern parallels suggest that “image of God” is a royal designation, emphasizing the godlike nature of the ruling monarch. (p. 87)

The function of RULING was primarily how mankind was made in the image and likeness of God and the ‘elohim.  As we continue this study, we will see the Bible clearly shows that the “sons of God” were given rule over mankind.  In fact, the book of Hebrews strongly implies this fact:

HEBREWS 2:5 For He has not put the world to come, of which we speak, in subjection to angels. (NKJV)

By stating that YHVH the Father will not put the “world to come” (i.e., the Millennial Age) under the control of the angelic rulers, the author of Hebrews is clearly inferring that the current world certainly IS under their authority and power.

Soon after the creation, one of these powerful angels, “that serpent called the Devil and Satan” (Rev. 12:9), incited Adam and Eve to disobey God and eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.  This rebellious act prompted YHVH to make the following statement to the ‘elohim:

GENESIS 3:22 And the LORD God said, “The man has now become like one of US, knowing good and evil.  He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the Tree of Life and eat, and live forever.” (NIV)

This statement shows that, unlike mankind, the ruling angels were created with the ability to recognize both good and evil.  It was this ability, combined with his arrogance and pride (cf. 1 Tim. 3:6), that prompted Satan to tempt mankind to disobey God in the first place.

THE ANGELS WHO SINNED

Satan’s sin in the Garden was the first time that the powerful ruling angels went contrary to God’s instructions, but it certainly was not the last.  In Genesis 6, we see another angelic mutiny against YHVH recorded:

GENESIS 6:1 When people began to multiply on the face of the ground, and daughters were born to them, 2 the sons of God saw that they were fair; and they took wives for themselves of all that they chose. . . .  4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days – and also afterward – when the sons of God went in to the daughters of humans, who bore children to them.  These were the heroes that were of old, warriors of renown. (NRSV)

The identity of these “sons of God” has been in dispute for the past 1,800 years (primarily for doctrinal reasons not related to the text itself).  However, there was no doubt about who they were at the time of Yeshua’s ministry.  The virtually unanimous opinion of antiquity was that these were some of the same angelic “sons of God” that had been present during the creation (Gen. 1:26; Job 38:7).

The ancient books of Enoch and Jubilees document that these offending angels were locked up in a subterranean “jail” called the Abyss for the actions summarized in Genesis 6:1-4.  This prison for spirit beings is mentioned several times in the New Testament.

Let’s first look at what the apostle Peter said about the angels imprisoned there:

2 PETER 2:4 For if God didn’t spare the angels who sinned, but threw them down into Tartarus and delivered them to be kept in chains of darkness until judgment; (CSB)

In Greek mythology, the poet Hesiod said that Tartarus was where the Titans, the first pantheon of Greek gods, were imprisoned after their defeat by the Olympian gods.  Tartarus was the hellish abode located far below Hades.  The original legends show that Tartarus was used only to confine those who were considered dangerous to the Olympian gods.  Only later did Tartarus also evolve into a place of punishment.  In this Scripture, Peter is citing the true history of the world before the Flood, which later became the basis for Greek mythology.

Jude also speaks of the angels’ imprisonment, and goes further to give the reason for it:

JUDE 1:6 And the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, He has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day – 7 just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire. (ESV)

Jude clearly states that the reason for the imprisonment of these wayward angels was the same sin attempted by those in Sodom and Gomorrah (Gen. 19:5) – sexual immorality brought on by unnatural lust.  Their sin brought about global devastation when YHVH wiped out their works and influence with the Flood of Noah.

But this is not the last the Bible has to say about these fallen angels.  We’ll pick up their story again later when they appear once more at the end of the age of Satan’s rule over the earth.

THE DIVISION OF THE NATIONS

More than three hundred years after the “sons of God” were banished to the underground prison and the earth cleansed of their vice by the Great Flood, we see YHVH once again consulting the remaining ruling angels.  This time, the issue was man’s rebellion at the Tower of Babel:

GENESIS 11:5 But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower that the men were building.  6 The LORD said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them.  7 Come, let US go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.”  8 So the LORD scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. (NIV)

The “us” in verse 7 is the same group of beney ha’elohim that God had earlier spoken to in Genesis 1:26 and 3:22, as Targum Pseudo-Jonathan again shows:

And the Lord was revealed to punish them for the work of the city and the tower which the sons of men builded.  And the Lord said, “Behold, the people is one, and the language of all of them one:  and this they have thought to do:  and now they will not be restrained from doing whatever they imagine.”  And the Lord said to the seventy angels which stand before Him, “Come, we will descend and will there commingle their language, that a man shall not understand the speech of his neighbour.”  And the Word of the Lord was revealed against the city, and with him seventy angels, having reference to seventy nations, each having its own language, and thence the writing of its own hand:  and he dispersed them from thence upon the face of all the earth into seventy languages.  And one knew not what his neighbour would say:  but one slew the other; and they ceased from building the city. (Gen. 11:5-8, Targum Pseudo-Jonathan, translated by J.W. Etheridge)

This Aramaic translation/commentary on Genesis 11:5-8 clearly states that YHVH was speaking to a group of 70 powerful angels when He said “let US go down.”   Shortly we will see why the number was 70; however, let’s first recognize WHO led these angels down to Babel.  YHVH did not leave His heavenly throne to bring this group to earth Himself.  Instead, the targum tells us that He sent one called “the Word of the LORD” as His agent in this task.  Elsewhere in the Bible, “the Word” is identified as Yeshua the Messiah (e.g., John 1:1, 14; Rev. 19:13).

The Legends of the Jews by Louis Ginzberg gives us some additional information about this event:

Beside the chastisement of sin and sinners by the confounding of speech, another notable circumstance was connected with the descent of God upon earth . . .  It was on this occasion that God and the seventy angels that surround His throne cast lots concerning the various nations.  Each angel received a nation, and Israel fell to the lot of God.  To every nation a peculiar language was assigned, Hebrew being reserved for Israel – the language made use of by God at the creation of the world. (vol. I, sec. IV, “Noah”)

The notion that the division of humanity into 70 nations at the Tower of Babel was by and for the angelic “sons of God” is also found in the ancient Book of Jasher, which is mentioned twice in the Bible (Jos. 10:13; II Sam. 1:18):

And they built the tower and the city, and they did this thing daily until many days and years were elapsed.   And God said to the seventy angels who stood foremost before Him, to those who were near to Him, saying, “Come let US descend and confuse their tongues, that one man shall not understand the language of his neighbor,” and they did so unto them. (ch. 9, vv. 31-32, Book of Jasher)

The reason the number of nations of mankind was established at 70 can be found one chapter earlier, in Genesis 10.  Here we see a list of the descendants of Noah’s sons, which not coincidentally totals to 70:

 SHEM (26) HAM (30)  JAPETH (14)
Elam 1 Asshur 2 Cush 1 Mizraim 2 Gomer 1
Arphaxad 3 Lud 4 Put 3 Canaan 4 Magog 2

Zemarites 29 Hamathites 30

The idea that the nations were distributed to a group of powerful spirit beings who became their “gods” was quite well known and widely accepted in the ancient world.  This view is also found in the Bible:

DEUTERONOMY 32:7 Remember the days of old; consider the years of many generations; ask your father, and he will show you, your elders, and they will tell you.   8 When the Most High gave to the nations their inheritance, when He divided mankind, He fixed the borders of the peoples according to the number of the sons of God.  9 But the LORD’s portion is His people, Jacob His allotted heritage. (ESV)

Most English translations follow the Hebrew Masoretic Text of verse 8, which substitutes “sons of Israel” for “sons of God.”  However, the 3rd-century BCE Greek translation of the Hebrew Scriptures known as the Septuagint (LXX) contradicts the Masoretic Text:

DEUTERONOMY 32:7 Remember the days of old, consider the years for past ages:  ask thy father, and he shall relate to thee, thine elders, and they shall tell thee.  8 When the Most High divided the nations, when He separated the sons of Adam, He set the bounds of the nations according to the number of the angels of God.  9 And His people Jacob became the portion of the Lord, Israel was the line of His inheritance. (Brenton’s LXX)

Copies of Deuteronomy found among the Dead Sea Scrolls in Qumran support the LXX reading.  Regarding the controversy over verse 8, The Dead Sea Scrolls Bible says this:

In the famous poem found in Deuteronomy 32, verse 8 tells us that God set the bounds of the peoples according to a certain number.  Following the Masoretic Text and the Samaritan Pentateuch, most modern Bibles describe this as the number of the “children of Israel.”  4QDeutj, however, specifies it as the number of the “children of God,” apparently denoting divine beings who would serve as protectors for various nations. (p. 191, translated and with commentary by Martin Abegg Jr., Peter Flint & Eugene Ulrich)

This difference in the text was apparently known to the rabbinic scholars.  In trying to explain Deuteronomy 32:8, Rabbi Avraham Ibn Ezra related it to an earlier verse in Deuteronomy:

And the meaning of When the Supreme One gave the nations their inheritance, etc. is similar to that of the verse:  the entire host of heaven, which Hashem, your God, has apportioned to all the peoples ([Deu.] 4:19).  The meaning of both of these verses is that corresponding to every “portion” below, i.e., every earthly nation, there is a “portion” above, i.e., a star or constellation.*

* (. . . as Ibn Ezra writes above on 4:19), God guides the affairs of the nations – with the exception of Israel – through the medium of these heavenly bodies.  Thus the verse there is saying that God apportioned the heavenly bodies to the nations, assigning each nation a different heavenly body through which He governs its affairs.  Ibn Ezra is saying that the inheritance that God gives the nations in our passage similarly refers to these heavenly bodies and their angels. (vol. 7, p. 762, Ramban Commentary on the Torah)

Rabbi Moshe ben Nachman also attempted to reconcile the two variant readings of Deuteronomy 32:8 in his commentary on this verse:

. . . They should remember the benevolence that [God] bestowed upon them at the time of Creation, as [Scripture] states:  When the Supreme One gave the nations their inheritance, when He separated the children of man, He set the borders of the peoples according to the number of the Children of Israel (v. 8).*

* The system of the celestial bodies and their angels, with their domain over the various nations, is a fundamental element in God’s providence over the universe and was established at Creation.  Yet according to verse 8, at its inception it was set according to the number of the Children of Israel, i.e., it was ordained that Israel was to have a special position of prominence, as Ibn Ezra has explained. (vol. 7, p. 763, Ramban Commentary on the Torah)

Targum Pseudo-Jonathan (which predates the Masoretic Text by many centuries) supports the more ancient reading of Deuteronomy 32:8 while possibly explaining the origin of the later variation in the Masoretic Text (i.e., “number of the sons of Israel”):

When the Most High made allotment of the world unto the nations which proceeded from the sons of Noach, in the separation of the writings and languages of the children of men at the time of the division, He cast the lot among the seventy angels, the princes of the nations with whom is the revelation to oversee the city, even at that time He established the limits of the nations according to the sum of the number of the seventy souls of Israel who went down into Mizraim. (Deu. 32:8, Targum Pseudo-Jonathan, translated by J.W. Etheridge)

The ancient writings record that a powerful class of angels participated in the creation and was given authority to rule over mankind by YHVH.

THE HOST OF HEAVEN

Now let’s look at other scriptural references to these “rulers,” “authorities,” and “powers.”  One title by which these spirit beings are occasionally referenced is the “host of heaven.”  Let’s begin by examining the verse discussed earlier in Ibn Ezra’s commentary:

DEUTERONOMY 4:19 “And beware not to lift up your eyes to heaven and see the sun and the moon and the stars, all the host of heaven, and be drawn away and worship them and serve them, those which the LORD your God has allotted to all the peoples under the whole heaven.” (NASU)

As Ibn Ezra explained, God guides the affairs of the Gentile nations through angels who are associated with various heavenly bodies.  This verse is saying that God correlated each nation with a different heavenly body, and the angelic rulers of those heavenly bodies were also given rule over the corresponding nations.  While this might at first seem like a strange concept, it is borne out by other passages of Scripture:

DEUTERONOMY 17:2 If there is found among you, in one of your towns that the LORD your God is giving you, a man or woman who does what is evil in the sight of the LORD your God, and transgresses His covenant 3 by going to serve other gods and worshiping them – whether the sun or the moon or any of the host of heaven, which I have forbidden – (NRSV)

The implication of this statement is that when an Israelite worshiped the sun, moon, or any other heavenly body, they were in fact worshiping the ‘elohim who had been given authority by YHVH over that body.  These “gods” were essentially interchangeable with the “host of heaven” assigned to them; worship of one was considered to be worship of both.  These ‘elohim had power over the nations YHVH had assigned to them, but He expressly forbade His people Israel from worshiping them.

Yet YHVH’s command did not stop Israel from forsaking Him and worshiping the gods of the other 70 nations:

2 KINGS 17:15 They [the Israelites] rejected His statutes and His covenant which He made with their fathers and His warnings with which He warned them.  And they followed vanity and became vain, and went after the nations which surrounded them, concerning which the LORD had commanded them not to do like them.  16 They forsook all the commandments of the LORD their God and made for themselves molten images, even two calves, and made an Asherah and worshiped all the host of heaven and served Baal. (NASU)

JEREMIAH 19:13 And the houses of Jerusalem and the houses of the kings of Judah shall be defiled like the place of Topheth – all the houses upon whose roofs offerings have been made to the whole host of heaven, and libations have been poured out to other gods. (NRSV)

In this example of Hebrew parallelism from Jeremiah, “the whole host of heaven” is equated to the “other gods” that the inhabitants of Jerusalem were worshiping.  Unfortunately, it wasn’t just the common people who worshiped these foreign gods.  Even some of the Jewish kings bowed down to them and honored them:

II CHRONICLES 33:1 Manasseh was twelve years old when he became king, and he reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem.  2 He did what was displeasing to the LORD, following the abhorrent practices of the nations that the LORD had dispossessed before the Israelites.  3 He rebuilt the shrines that his father Hezekiah had demolished; he erected altars for the Baals and made sacred posts.  He bowed down to all the host of heaven and worshiped them, 4 and he built altars to them in the House of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, “My name will be in Jerusalem forever.”  5 He built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the House of the LORD. (JPS Tanakh)

YHVH warned the Jews where worshiping these foreign gods would finally lead:

ZEPHANIAH 1:4 “I will stretch out My hand against Judah, and against all the inhabitants of Jerusalem.  I will cut off every trace of Baal from this place, the names of the idolatrous priests with the pagan priests – 5 those who worship the host of heaven on the housetops; those who worship and swear oaths by the LORD, but who also swear by Milcom; 6 those who have turned back from following the LORD, and have not sought the LORD, nor inquired of Him.” (NKJV)

JEREMIAH 8:1 “At that time, declares the LORD, the bones of the kings of Judah, the bones of its officials, the bones of the priests, the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the inhabitants of Jerusalem shall be brought out of their tombs.  2 And they shall be spread before the sun and the moon and all the host of heaven, which they have loved and served, which they have gone after, and which they have sought and worshiped.  And they shall not be gathered or buried.  They shall be as dung on the surface of the ground. (ESV)

Finally YHVH punished their rebellion and fulfilled His warnings to Israel.  He had kept Israel as His own portion out of all peoples, but they betrayed Him and pursued the gods of the other nations instead.  It is easy to see why Israel is figuratively portrayed as an adulterous woman in Scripture (Jer. 2:19-20; 3:1-10; Eze. 6:9; 23:1-49; Hos. 4:12; 9:1).

Contrary to what one might think from the preceding passages, these “gods of the nations” were not originally the enemies of YHVH.  In fact, they worshiped and served Him, as Nehemiah informs us:

NEHEMIAH 9:6 “You are the LORD, you alone.  You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them; and You preserve all of them; and the host of heaven worships You.” (ESV)

THE HEAVENLY DIVINE COUNCIL

This “host of heaven,” the gods of the nations, composed a heavenly divine council that met regularly under the direction of YHVH.  In the following passage of Scripture, the prophet Micaiah describes a vision he saw of a heavenly council meeting called by YHVH to bring about the death of Israel’s King Ahab:

2 CHRONICLES 18:18 Micaiah continued, “Therefore hear the word of the LORD:  I saw the LORD sitting on His throne with all the host of heaven standing on His right and on His left.  19 And the LORD said, ‘Who will entice Ahab king of Israel into attacking Ramoth Gilead and going to his death there?’  One suggested this, and another that.  20 Finally, a spirit came forward, stood before the LORD and said, ‘I will entice him.’ “‘By what means?’ the LORD asked.  21 “‘I will go and be a lying spirit in the mouths of all his prophets,’ he said.  “‘You will succeed in enticing him,’ said the LORD.  ‘Go and do it.’  22 “So now the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouths of these prophets of yours. The LORD has decreed disaster for you.” (NIV)

From this passage, it is clear that “all the host of heaven” standing before YHVH’s throne in this meeting of the divine council were in service to Him.  Why this afterward changed will be discussed later in this article.

In Scripture, one of the signs of a true prophet of YHVH was being shown a vision of one of His divine council meetings.  Those seers who had not stood in a council meeting were proclaimed to be false prophets and deceivers:

JEREMIAH 23:16 Thus says the LORD of hosts:  “Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you, filling you with vain hopes.  They speak visions of their own minds, not from the mouth of the LORD.  17 They say continually to those who despise the word of the LORD, ‘It shall be well with you’; and to everyone who stubbornly follows his own heart, they say, ‘No disaster shall come upon you.'”  18 For who among them has stood in the council of the LORD to see and to hear His word, or who has paid attention to His word and listened? (ESV)

JOB 15:7 Were you the first man born?  Were you created before the hills?  8 Have you listened in on the council of God?  Have you sole possession of wisdom? (JPS Tanakh)

The Bible mentions the divine council in heaven several times, including this interesting passage from Psalm 89:

PSALM 89:5 The heavens praise your wonders, O LORD, your faithfulness too, in the assembly of the holy ones.  6 For who in the skies above can compare with the LORD?  Who is like the LORD among the heavenly beings?  7 In the council of the holy ones God is greatly feared; He is more awesome than all who surround Him. (NIV)

The book of Job records two of the most well-known divine council meetings:

JOB 1:6 One day the sons of God [beney ha’elohim] came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan [hasatan] also came with them.  7 The LORD asked Satan [hasatan], “Where have you come from?”  “From roaming through the earth,” Satan [hasatan] answered Him, “and walking around on it.” (CSB)

JOB 2:1 Again there was a day when the sons of God [beney ha’elohim] came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan [hasatan] also came among them to present himself before the LORD.  2 And the LORD said to Satan [hasatan], “From where have you come?”  Satan [hasatan] answered the LORD and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking up and down on it.” (ESV)

As these two passages of Scripture indicate, the beney ha’elohim regularly assembled in heaven for meetings of the divine council.  When they did so, it seems that Satan [literally hasatan, “the Adversary”] would come with them to appear before YHVH at the same time.

SATAN’S ROLE IN THE DIVINE COUNCIL

This raises the question of the role Satan played in the divine council.  Was he one of the 70 ruling angels?  Or did he serve another function?  Let’s examine a related Scripture to see what more we can learn:

ZECHARIAH 3:1 Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the Angel of the LORD, with Satan [hasatan] standing at his right side to accuse him.  2 The LORD said to Satan [hasatan]:  “The LORD rebuke you, Satan [hasatan]!  May the LORD who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you!  Isn’t this man a burning stick snatched from the fire?” (CSB)

In the Bible, God usually names someone what they are.  In the case of Satan, he is called “the Adversary” because he is the principal foe of humanity.  Genesis chapter 3 tells us how this animosity between Satan and mankind originated:

GENESIS 3:13 Then the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”  The woman said, “The serpent [i.e., Satan – cf. Rev. 12:9] deceived me, and I ate.”  14 So the LORD God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, “Cursed are you above all the livestock and all the wild animals!  You will crawl on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life.  15 And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.” (NIV)

The curse placed on Satan was FIGURATIVE, not literal. Just as an actual serpent crawls on its belly along the ground, Satan was removed from his position in heaven as an “anointed cherub who covered” the throne of YHVH with his wings (Eze. 28:14; cf. Luke 10:18 ) and sentenced to “roam throughout the earth and walk around on it” (Job 1:7; 2:2). The second part of the curse (i.e., “eat dust”) dictated that while going to and fro on the earth, Satan’s job would be to continually seek to harm mankind (who is made from dust – Gen. 3:19; Psa. 104:29; Ecc. 3:20).

By properly understanding the curse, we can discern HOW Satan got his authority and position in the divine council.  As Zechariah 3:1 and Revelation 12:10 confirm, YHVH empowered him as the accuser of mankind (Satan clearly took a special interest in accusing God’s people).  In the New Testament, Satan is often called the “Devil” (diabolos), which in Greek literally means “accuser” or “slanderer.” Satan was heaven’s “prosecuting attorney,” appointed by God to find shortcomings in mankind and present those faults to God for punishment.

Regarding Satan and his role in God’s plan, Eerdmans states:

At Job 1:6-12; 2:1-7 . . . this being is a member of the heavenly court of God who wanders about the earth observing mankind and then stands as mankind’s accuser before God, thus functioning as a servant of God; a similar function was performed in the Persian Empire by officials known as “the king’s eyes and ears” (cf. Zech. 4:10), and similar officials may have existed also in early Israel (cf. 1 Sam. 22:6-10) (p. 914, The Eerdmans Bible Dictionary, “Satan”)

By comprehending his position in the heavenly divine council, we can begin to understand HOW Satan has authority over the 70 nations:

LUKE 4:5 And the Devil took him [i.e., Yeshua] up and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time, 6 and said to him, “To you I will give all this authority and their glory, for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whom I will.” (ESV)

1 JOHN 5:19 We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. (ESV)

Satan was not made a ruler over any of the 70 nations by YHVH.  However, he was given legal authority by Him to accuse them (and Israel) of sin before the divine council and prosecute them for those sins.  The Bible clearly tells us that sin leads to death (Eze. 18:4; Rom. 5:12; 6:23; Jam. 1:15), and states that the Devil has the power of death (Heb. 2:14).

None of the 70 nations had a system that allowed their sins to be forgiven by YHVH the Father.  Therefore, YHVH gave Satan de facto power over the nations when He gave him the authority to prosecute their sins.  By sinning, the nations placed themselves under Satan’s power.

However, Israel was provided a way to have their sins removed once per year, on the Day of Atonement (i.e., Yom Kippur).  This means of forgiveness was something the other 70 nations did not have.  Regarding this exception, the Babylonian Talmud has an interesting observation about Satan’s authority:

On the Day of Atonement, Satan has no power to serve as prosecutor.  And how do we know this fact?  Rama bar Chama said:  the numerical value [i.e., gematria] of the word Hasatan is 364.  Thus out of 365 days of the year there is one day, Yom Kippur, on which he has no power. (Yoma 20a)

Every year on Yom Kippur, the Israelite high priest was commanded to conduct a ritual that removed Israel’s sins and reconciled the nation as a whole to YHVH (Lev. 16).  On this day when Israel was cleansed of sin, Satan had no ability to accuse or prosecute them.  This concept has important ramifications for understanding HOW Satan has control of the 70 nations.  Complete forgiveness of sin was available only to the Israelites and only on Yom Kippur.

YESHUA’S ROLE IN THE DIVINE COUNCIL

Now that we’ve defined Satan’s role in the divine council, let’s examine Yeshua’s place in it.  We’ll start by looking closely at Psalm 82.  Here, Asaph (a chief Levite musician under King David – 1 Chr. 6:39) proclaims a prophecy about YHVH’s eventual punishment of those ruling angels on the divine council:

PSALM 82:1 A Psalm of Asaph.  God [‘elohim] has taken His place in the divine council; in the midst of the gods [‘elohim] He holds judgment:  2 “How long will you judge unjustly and show partiality to the wicked?  Selah  3 Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute.  4 Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.”  5 They have neither knowledge nor understanding, they walk about in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken.  6 I said, “You are gods, sons of the Most High, all of you; 7 nevertheless, like men [‘adam] you shall die, and fall like any prince.” 8 Arise, O God, judge the earth; for you shall inherit all the nations! (ESV)

Asaph begins by showing YHVH the Father in His role as the head of the divine council.  During this meeting of the council, God criticizes the “gods” for not properly exercising the authority He has granted them.  Asaph explains that the injustice of the ‘elohim have undermined all the foundations of the world.  He records God’s warning to these spiritual rulers that the punishment for their iniquity will be to “die like men.”  Obviously all mortals will “die like men.”  Therefore, the view that this Scripture is referring to human rulers/judges is illogical and makes no sense.  Asaph ends the psalm by exhorting YHVH to judge the earth and its divine rulers, because all nations truly belong to Him and not to them.

Psalm 82:7 refers to these governing ‘elohim as “princes.”  This title connects these council members with a passage of Scripture found in the 10th chapter of Daniel:

DANIEL 10:5 I lifted up my eyes and looked, and behold, a man clothed in linen, with a belt of fine gold from Uphaz around his waist.  6 His body was like beryl, his face like the appearance of lightning, his eyes like flaming torches, his arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze, and the sound of his words like the sound of a multitude. . . . 12 Then he said to me, “Fear not, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand and humbled yourself before your God, your words have been heard, and I have come because of your words.  13 The prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days, but Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I was left there with the kings of Persia, (ESV)

In this passage we are given a fascinating glimpse into the order and activities of the spiritual realm.  The mighty angel Gabriel was sent from heaven by YHVH to give Daniel understanding of what would happen to his people the Jews “in the end of days” (v. 14, Heb. be’acharit hayamim).  However, Gabriel was impeded for three weeks because “the prince of the kingdom of Persia” contested God’s purpose to enlighten Daniel (and through him, us).

This prince of Persia clearly was not human; he was the divine council member who ruled over the nation of Persia.  Since Daniel was in the land of Persia, he was under the authority of this angelic prince.  The prince of Persia did not want Daniel to receive this revelation, so he fought hard against Gabriel to keep him from delivering YHVH’s message.

Gabriel tells Daniel that God’s message to him might not have been delivered except for the help of Michael, here called “one of the chief princes.”  Gabriel continues speaking about these divine princes later:

DANIEL 10:20 Then he said, “Do you know why I have come to you?  But now I will return to fight against the prince of Persia; and when I go out, behold, the prince of Greece will come. (ESV)

After conveying his message to Daniel, Gabriel states that he must return to again battle the prince of Persia.  Furthermore, he states the prince of Greece will come after he has finished with the prince of Persia.  The picture portrayed by this brief account is one of spirit beings exercising authority over the nations they have been given to rule.

DANIEL 10:21 I’ll inform you about what has been recorded in the Book of Truth.  No one stands firmly with me against these opponents, except Michael your prince. (ISV)

Gabriel finishes this part of his narrative by stating that his only ally against these powerful spirit beings was Michael, whom Gabriel here calls Daniel’s prince.  His title is again given at the beginning of the 12th chapter of Daniel:

DANIEL 12:1 “At that time shall arise Michael, the great prince who has charge of your people.  And there shall be a time of trouble, such as never has been since there was a nation till that time.  But at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone whose name shall be found written in the Book.” (ESV)

In these passages from Daniel, Michael is identified as “one of the chief princes” (Dan. 10:13) on the divine council who is said to be the prince over the people of Israel (Dan. 10:21; 12:1).  Earlier we saw that Israel is NOT one of the 70 nations, but rather was YHVH’s chosen people, separate from the rest.

Other than establishing his role in relation to Israel, we are not told much about Michael here.  However, he is specifically mentioned twice in the New Testament (Jude 9; Rev. 12:7).  Interestingly, an interaction between Yeshua and the Pharisees during his observance of Chanukah in Jerusalem gives us some important additional information:

JOHN 10:24 Then the Jews encircled him and said to him, “How long will you hold us in suspense?  If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.”  25 Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe.  The works that I do in my Father’s name, these things testify about me.  26 But you do not believe, because you are not of my sheep, just as I said to you.  27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.  28 And I give to them eternal life, and they shall never perish; and no one will snatch them out of my hand.  29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of my Father’s hand.  30 I and the Father are one [hen].”  31 Therefore the Jews took up stones again to stone him.  32 Jesus answered them, “Many good works I have shown you from my Father.  For which of those works do you stone me?”  33 The Jews answered him, saying, “For a good work we do not stone you, but for blasphemy, and because you, being a man, make yourself God [theon].”  34 Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, “You are gods [theoi]” ‘?  If He called those gods [theous], to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken), 36 do you say of him whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God‘ [huios tou theou, lit. “son of the God”]?  37 If I am not doing the works of my Father, do not believe me; 38 but if I am doing them, even if you do not believe me, believe the works, so that you may know and believe that the Father is in me, and I in Him.” (EMTV)

In the passage above, the Jews specifically asked Yeshua if he was the prophesied Messiah (v. 24).  He said that he had already told them he was the Messiah, and they had not believed him (v. 25a).  Yeshua went on to say that the works he had performed in the Father’s name were a witness to his true identity (v. 25b).  But then he made a distinction between the unbelieving Jews who were not of his sheep and those the Father had given to him (vv. 26-29).  In verse 30, Yeshua concluded his comments to the Jews by proclaiming that he and his Father were “one” (Gr. hen).

Let’s look more closely at the Greek word hen.  Vincent said that the Greek word hen, translated “one” in John 10:30, is “the neuter, not the masculine e??, one person” (p. 197, vol. II, Word Studies of the New Testament).  The use of hen here clearly indicates that Yeshua was not claiming that he and the Father were the same being.  Jamieson, Fausset, and Brown wrote of this verse:  “Our language admits not of the precision of the original in this great saying, ‘We (two Persons) are One (Thing).’  Perhaps ‘one interest’ expresses nearly, though not quite, the purport of the saying” (p. 414, vol. III, part I, A Commentary, Critical, Experimental, and Practical).  The Abingdon Bible Commentary says: ” V. 30 does not affirm a metaphysical unity, but a moral, and we must not read the later creeds into the words” (p. 1079).

Yeshua’s answer in verse 30 prompted the Jews to charge him with blasphemy and prepare to stone him (vv. 31-33).  In verses 34-36, Yeshua addressed the charge that they had leveled against him, namely that he had blasphemed by proclaiming himself to be an ‘elohim (the Greek root word theos is the equivalent of the Hebrew ‘elohim).

Based on Yeshua’s answer to the Jews, why were they planning to stone him?  Did they think that he, a man, had proclaimed himself to be YHVH the Father?  Or did they understand his claim in a way that was different from the common understanding of today?

The Jews did not view Yeshua’s response in verse 30 the same way a Trinitarian or Oneness believer would today.  Let’s allow the Jews themselves to define for us what they took Yeshua’s claim to be:

JOHN 19:6 Therefore, when the chief priests and officers saw him, they cried out, saying, “Crucify him, crucify him!”  Pilate said to them, “You take him and crucify him, for I find no fault in him.”  7 The Jews answered him, “We have a law, and according to our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God [heauton huion theou epoiesen, lit. “himself a son of God he made”].” (NKJV)

According to the Jews’ own words, they understood that Yeshua was claiming to be an ‘elohim, one of the divine sons of God.  Yeshua’s specific reply in John 10:34 to their charge of blasphemy was to quote from Psalm 82:6, which is a reference to those ruling angels on the divine council who were called “sons of God” in the Old Testament (Job 1:6; 2:1; 38:7; etc.).  Then Yeshua asked the Jews, “Why do you say I’m blaspheming just because I’ve proclaimed myself to be a Son of God, when the Father Himself in the Scripture calls the members of the divine council “gods” (‘elohim)?” (vv. 35-36).

Yeshua’s response to the Jews (which they understood) was that he was one of those divine council members.  But which one?  In his Gospel, John tells us that Yeshua came to his own people, and his own people did not accept him (John 1:11).  The clear implication of this statement is that before his mortal existence as a man, Yeshua had been the ‘elohim Michael, the prince over Israel who represented and defended them in the divine council.

The identification of Michael with Yeshua is often summarily rejected by Christians.  This is primarily because it is considered a foundational doctrine of the Jehovah’s Witnesses denomination, which most Christians deem to be a cult.  However, a look at how Christian scholars from a time before the foundation of the Jehovah’s Witnesses viewed this identification is edifying:

Jesus Christ shall appear his church’s patron and protector:  At that time, when the persecution is at the hottest, Michael shall stand up, v. 1.  The angel had told Daniel what a firm friend Michael was to the church, ch. x. 21.  He all along showed this friendship in the upper world; the angels knew it; but now Michael shall stand up in his providence, and work deliverance for the Jews, when he sees that their power is gone, Deut. xxxii. 3. 6.  Christ is that great prince, for he is the prince of the kings of the earth, Rev. i. 5.  And, if he stand up for his church, who can be against it?  But this is not all: At that time (that is, soon after) Michael shall stand up for the working out of our eternal salvation; the Son of God shall be incarnate, shall be manifested to destroy the works of the devil. (p. 1942, vol. 4, Matthew Henry, Commentary on the Whole Bible)

  1. For the children – The meaning seems to be, as after the death of Antiochus the Jews had some deliverance, so there will be yet a greater deliverance to the people of God, when Michael your prince, the Messiah shall appear for your salvation.  A time of trouble – At the siege of Jerusalem, before the final judgment.  The phrase at that time, probably includes all the time of Christ, from his first, to his last coming. (p. 4092, John Wesley, Notes on the Bible)

Some think the word Michael represents Christ, and I do not object to this opinion. Clearly enough, if all angels keep watch over the faithful and elect, still Christ holds the first rank among them, because he is their head, and uses their ministry and assistance to defend all his people. (p. 243, vol. 2, John Calvin, Commentaries on the Book of the Prophet Daniel)

but, lo, Michael one of the chief Princes, came to help me; called in the New Testament an Archangel, the Prince of angels, the Head of all principality and power; and is no other than Christ the Son of God . . . (Daniel 10:13, John Gill, Exposition of the Bible)

Michael, he who is like God, sometimes appears to signify the Messiah, at other times the highest or chief archangel.  Indeed there is no archangel mentioned in the whole Scripture but this one. (Daniel 10:13, Adam Clarke, Commentary on the Bible)

Henry, Wesley, Calvin, Gill, and Clarke are all respected Christian scholars who either identified Michael as Christ or admitted of that possibility.  The scope of the available evidence clearly demonstrates that the Jehovah’s Witnesses sect cannot lay claim to having originated the identification of Michael with the Messiah.

Additionally, many Jewish writings identify Michael as the Prince of Israel who mediated for them in many ways.  He was the lead angelic prince who presented offerings in the heavenly sanctuary (Babylonian Talmud, Menahot 110a) ; was the leader of the angels who visited Abraham (Babylonian Talmud, Yoma 37a); was Israel’s guardian angel (Babylonian Talmud, Yoma 77a); prevented Isaac from being sacrificed (Yalkut Reubeni, Wayera); wrestled with Jacob (Targum Pseudo-Jonathan, Gen. 32:25); was Israel’s advocate when they deserved death at the Red Sea (Exodus Rabbah, 18:5); led Israel during the forty years in the wilderness (Rabbi Abravanel’s commentary on Exo. 23:20); gave Moses the tables of stone (Apocalypse of Moses, 1); instructed Moses at Sinai (Book of Jubilees, i. 27, ii. 1); destroyed the army of Sennacherib (Midrash Exodus 18:5).

A TRANSFER OF AUTHORITY

As Satan’s temptation of Yeshua shows (Matt. 4:1-11; Luke 4:1-13), he understood that the Messiah’s goal in becoming human was to qualify to rule over all nations, not just Israel.  The Devil tried to get Yeshua to take the easy path to attaining this authority by worshiping him:

LUKE 4:5 Then the Devil led him up to a high place and showed him in a flash all the kingdoms of the world.  6 And he said to him, “To you I will grant this whole realm — and the glory that goes along with it, for it has been relinquished to me, and I can give it to anyone I wish.  7 So then, if you will worship me, all this will be yours.” (NET)

Of course, Yeshua rejected Satan’s offer and instead followed the narrow path to his destiny on the cross.  Because of his obedience unto death, many Scriptures show that God raised Yeshua from the dead and elevated him to His right hand in heaven:

PHILIPPIANS 2:6 [Yeshua the Messiah] who though he existed in the form of God did not regard equality with God as something to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself by taking on the form of a slave, by looking like other men, and by sharing in human nature.  8 He humbled himself, by becoming obedient to the point of death — even death on a cross!  9 As a result God exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, (NET)

HEBREWS 10:12 But this one [i.e., Yeshua], after he had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, sat down at the right hand of God, (CJB)

HEBREWS 1:3 The Son is the radiance of His [i.e., YHVH’s] glory and the representation of His essence, and he sustains all things by His powerful word, and so when he had accomplished cleansing for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. (NET)

HEBREWS 12:2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (NIV)

ROMANS 8:34 Who is the one to condemn?  It is the Messiah Jesus who is interceding on our behalf.  He died, and more importantly, has been raised and is seated at the right hand of God. (ISV)

Many Scriptures in the New Testament testify that Yeshua was rewarded by God for his faithful obedience unto death.  In essence, a massive transfer of authority took place after Messiah ascended back to heaven after his resurrection.  This transfer, and the reason for it, was succinctly prophesied in Psalm 45:6-7.

PSALM 45:6 Your throne, O God [‘elohim], is permanent.  The scepter of your kingdom is a scepter of justice.  7 You love justice and hate evil.  For this reason God, your God [‘elohim ‘eloheykha] has anointed you with the oil of joy, elevating you above your companions. (NET)

This prophecy of Messiah’s exaltation by YHVH the Father is quoted in the letter to the Hebrews:

HEBREWS 1:8 But about the Son He says, “Your throne, O God [theos], will last for ever and ever, and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom.  9 You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God [ho theos ho theos sou, lit. “the God, the God of you”], has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.” (NIV)

The letter to the Hebrews was primarily written to Jewish believers in Yeshua to explain his origin and identity, as well as his role in YHVH’s plan.  In quoting Psalm 45:6, the author of Hebrews applies the title ‘elohim specifically to Yeshua to describe his power and position.  This anointed Son of God was one of the exalted ‘elohim that served on the divine council, the one that YHVH assigned to rule over His portion, the nation of Israel (Deu. 32:9).

The next verse of the quotation confirms this identification.  As we saw earlier, Psalm 82 shows that the other ‘elohim acted unjustly in the administration of their duties over the nations.  But Psalm 45:7 tells us that this Son “loved righteousness and hated lawlessness.”  He walked in YHVH’s ways instead of doing his own will.  Therefore, Yeshua was elevated above his “companions,” the other members of the divine council.

The effect of this divine anointing and elevation was the authority that had been vested in Satan and a council of 70 was centralized in Yeshua.  YHVH elevated Yeshua to the right hand of His throne in heaven, and placed him in authority over all the other spiritual rulers that existed:

I PETER 3:22 [Yeshua] who has gone to heaven and is at the right hand of God, where angels, authorities, and powers have been made subject to him. (ISV)

EPHESIANS 1:20  This power He [God the Father] exercised in Christ when He raised him from the dead and seated him at His right hand in the heavenly realms 21 far above every rule and authority and power and dominion and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. (NET)

COLOSSIANS 2:9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10 and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority. (NIV)

The author of Hebrews tells us much about Yeshua’s exaltation after his resurrection.  Unfortunately, his comments have generally been misunderstood and misinterpreted:

HEBREWS 1:4  Thus he [Yeshua] became so far better than the angels as he has inherited a name superior to theirs.  5 For to which of the angels did God ever say, “You are My son!  Today I have fathered you”?  And in another place He says, “I will be his Father and he will be My son.”  6  But when He again brings His firstborn into the world, He says, “Let all the angels of God worship him!” (NET)

The statement in verse 4 that “he became” better than the angels (a reference to the other ‘elohim on the divine council) clearly indicates a change in status.  This declaration shows that “after making purification for sins” (v. 3), Yeshua was elevated to higher position.  Many New Testament Scriptures confirm that his obedient death on the cross allowed him to be exalted.

Verse 5 contains two citations from the Old Testament which confirm the sure nature of God’s promise to His “Anointed” that He would establish him as king over the entire earth.  These two citations show that Yeshua is not simply one of the ruling angels, but instead he is the promised Messiah, the seed of David, the one who will reign in Jerusalem on David’s throne during the millennial Kingdom of God.

Verse 6 is a partial citation of Deuteronomy 32:43 from the ancient Greek Septuagint translation of the Old Testament.  The author relates this Scripture to the return of Yeshua, the firstborn Son of God, into the world at the end of the age.  He builds on the theme of messianic rulership initiated in verse 5 and shows the time when the Messiah will come to take his rightful authority over the nations of the earth from their former angelic rulers.

When the Messiah sacrificed himself for the sins of mankind, he took away Satan’s ability to accuse YHVH’s people of sin.  Instead of simply being an advocate for Israel, he became their replacement.  To those who accepted it, his blood paid the debt of death owed to the Law for sin which Satan and the other ‘elohim demanded:

COLOSSIANS 2:13 And when you were dead in trespasses and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, He [i.e., YHVH] made you alive with him [i.e., Yeshua] and forgave us all our trespasses.  14 He erased the certificate of debt, with its obligations, that was against us and opposed to us, and has taken it out of the way by nailing it to the cross.  15 He [i.e., Yeshua] disarmed the rulers and authorities and disgraced them publicly; he triumphed over them by Him [i.e., YHVH]. (CSB)

SATAN AND HIS ANGELS REVOLT

Needless to say, Satan and the divine council did not like the new situation they found themselves in after Yeshua was resurrected and ascended to sit at the right hand of the Father.  Although the timing is subject to conjecture, it seems likely that Satan and the ruling princes rebelled against this new order shortly before the siege and destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans in 70 CE:

REVELATION 12:7 Then war broke out in heaven:  Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. 8 But the dragon was not strong enough to prevail, so there was no longer any place left in heaven for him and his angels.  9 So that huge dragon – the ancient serpent, the one called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world – was thrown down to the earth, and his angels along with him. 10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven saying, “The salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the ruling authority of his Christ, have now come, because the accuser of our brothers and sisters, the one who accuses them day and night before our God, has been thrown down.  11 But they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives so much that they were afraid to die. (NET)

Regarding this heavenly battle described in Revelation 12, several ancient historians record what certainly could have been man’s view of it.  From Josephus’ 1st-century history, we have record of a heavenly battle that took place in the skies over Jerusalem in the Spring of 66 CE:

Also on certain days after the festival [i.e., Passover] there appeared a thing so marvelous as to be beyond belief, but that it was related by many that saw it in their own eyes.  Before the setting of the sun there were seen chariots driven across the sky, and hosts of armed men setting themselves in order of battle, and surrounding the cities. (bk. 6, ch. 5, sec. 3, Wars of the Jews).

Interestingly, this event would have taken place about 40 years from the time Yeshua began his earthly ministry in the fall of 26 CE.  Josephus is not the only historian who records this celestial war.  About 110 CE, the Roman historian Tacitus described this same supernatural event.

In the sky appeared a vision of armies in conflict, of glittering armor.  A sudden lightning flash from the clouds lit up the Temple.  The doors of the holy place abruptly opened, a superhuman voice was heard to declare that the gods were leaving it, and in the same instant came the rushing tumult of their departure.  Few people placed a sinister interpretation upon this.  The majority were convinced that the ancient scriptures of their priests alluded to the present as the very time when the Orient would triumph and from Judaea would go forth men destined to rule the world. (bk. 5, ch. 13, Historiae)

The early church historian Eusebius of Caesarea also wrote about this heavenly fight around 325 CE:

And not many days after the feast [i.e., Passover], on the twenty-first of the month Artemisium [corresponds to the second month of the Jewish year, Iyar] a certain marvelous vision was seen which passes belief.  The prodigy might seem fabulous were it not related by those who saw it, and were not the calamities which followed deserving of such signs.  For before the setting of the sun chariots and armed troops were seen throughout the whole region in mid-air, wheeling through the clouds and encircling the cities. (bk. 3, ch. 8, sec. 5, Ecclesiastical History)

Satan and the princes of the divine council were cast out of heaven by Michael, which is the divine council name of Yeshua.  The holy angels of heaven gave thanks for this event, but also recorded a warning for mankind:

REVELATION 12:12 Rejoice then, you heavens and those who dwell in them!  But woe to the earth and the sea, for the Devil has come down to you with great wrath, because he knows that his time is short!” (NRSV)

EPHESIANS 2:1  You used to be dead because of your offenses and sins, 2 that you once practiced as you lived according to the ways of this present world and according to the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit that is now active in those who are disobedient. (ISV)

https://dochub.com/timesoftrouble  offers a good choice being many individual reads on various subjects concerning the major mess America and our entire world civilization is truly in; and includes worldwide mislead Christianity according to the Bible.

CIVILIZATIONS GRIM FUTURE & MANY UNKNOWN TRUTHS

100_3369Isaiah 13

Within our human race of modern society this day via technology such as Internet, massive libraries, or whatever our minds have been fed ever since we were born; any seeking knowledge or truth through their own want of genuine understanding can either think they know everything needed for their life, or have found it on any subject according to their own mind; when in absolute truth all have been presented with an endless smorgasbord of different views with religions being the worst and greatest mixture of truths blended well having many mistruths, errors, and flat out lies which have misled our entire earthly civilization; and that includes non believers because who would ever want to be like this world of Israelite misled Christian believers???

There is but only one way to seek absolute unknown fact regarding this earth and our human race; and that comes through total disassociation with this world, all of its ways, and all beliefs regardless of their title. Another way to describe world disassociation comes when a person has gone through a decade having no funds, nowhere to go, and nothing to do beyond daily life having many spiritual chains for restriction so that they can be shaped and molded for YHVHs use through these end times; therefore ‘if any’ being the inhabitants in over 7.3 billion world population would actually believe any truth from not of this world — that would make Yehovah God as a liar when any read these following words. . .

“And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels [include ministers in “ALL” of today’s churches] were thrown down with him. (Revelation 12:9)

Have you ever really wanted to better understand more about the two witnesses, the 144,000, the destroyer anti-Christ, the beast, Satan, trumpets, seals, rapture, hell, the law, soul, lake of fire, clean foods, feasts, Sabbath, world deception, and much much more?

How much love do you really have towards Yehovah God and Yeshua Christ? Enough to follow instruction from the Bible? Enough to actually suffer as He suffered for our entire human race? Enough to long with great desire for the hard life and hard walk until death being the greatest honor any human could ever have through becoming one of the firstfruit end-time witnesses in Revelation chapter 11?

What if I were to tell you that all things are possible for doers of the word rather than hearers only deceiving themselves?

Have you ever asked yourself how billions scattered worldwide could possibly view and celebrate the death of only two individuals within their own 2 square ft section of this earth? Or does that ‘two’ have a meaning in scripture not known or understood?  After many years of wanting, or should I say dreaming of such a position, yet feeling so low and unworthy as a sinner or reprobate as being good for nothing – I now know my calling and destiny — do you know yours? I am 61, have over 25 years of private study, never been a church member; and left America on a one way ticket to the Philippines in 2006 only to begin my direct walk and way of life thru learning to live on faith towards gaining the spiritual knowledge which is understanding of our Father upon His Throne in the 3rd heaven; therefore place zero trust in any of this world filled with religions through being called out of this world in John 15:18-21 – thus following the instruction in Proverbs 2:1-6 and 3:5-6 along with the entire Bible according to what path Yehovah has placed me for His purpose during these end times – which for me, and perhaps you also, if it be your desire to become a doer of the word by placing you amongst the other 139,999 which will end in the most glorious way through death for 3 ½ days followed by the firstfruit resurrection.

How many believers do you know that for a decade have had no life other than, for the most part, morning till night reading, studies, writing, praying, and coming to know without doubt or question that by themselves spiritually speaking – they can do absolutely nothing but mislead even themselves; however, when believers have come to realize the meaning of instruction from the Bible is not just words, but rather direction when followed because they have overcome the God of this world being the father of lies all unknowingly believe in uncountable ways through his psychological power held over all minds.

Through the past nine years while living in poverty, I have built 15 free websites, have no printer use, not my own wireless signal, not my own domain, not my own home, expired passport, no bank account, wrote a 474 page book in 2012 that was published and never sold, over 1000 blogs, and much more for gaining my spiritual education through walking our commanded walk while becoming as a living sacrifice through much physical, mental, and spiritual endurance through years of my wife’s physical suffering while lacking many basic needs such as decent meals on a regular basis ever since 2007 — which endurance comes from deep spiritual roots being as preparation for what lies ahead — rather than only talking religious talk this world of Christians are so very good at doing while completely ignoring all scripture on loving others through deed as they love themselves, proving all things, and living by every word through obedience instead of being extremely selfish, all knowing, prideful, and completely blinded by the God of this world all worship in their own way; and that includes billions taking part in the greatest pagan holiday on this earth known as Christmas — and are not even aware of the false light leaving them all in darkness rather than life’s instruction as written in Colossians 3 and all through their book of instruction never followed.

Because our creator does all things in His own time, since my start through being spiritually drawn in 1989 — my greatest blessing has finally arrived through very well detailed truth as spiritual planting not known to any being set on worldly ways or any of the well over 30,000 Christian beliefs flowing with many major doctrine twists on this planet earth — but rather seeking from the only supplier of truth not yet spiritually known by earth dwellers associated with human ways because. . .

“There is a way that seems right to a man and appears straight before him, but at the end of it is the way of death. (Proverbs 16:25)

Everything I have written thus far regarding scripture can be found through the links below followed by one of my own websites having much [190 reads] needed knowledge that can be gained rather than our world of religious smorgasbords pedaling lies, mega advertisements, misconception, and wrong direction upon a world of people in no way prepared for the worst timesoftrouble en route, and coming upon all worldwide including Christianity with the 66 verses in Lamentations 3 as their own destiny.

Are the Dead Conscious or Asleep?

Last Updated: June 1, 2009

This article uncovers many of the lies of our Adversary (Satan) which cloud our understanding of what happens after we die in the flesh.
